I also use a propane torch (trigger type since I'm lazy) to warm the sprue plate to assure full fill out on the bullet base on the first cast. I found that the primary cause of bad base fill-out was a cold sprue plate. I heated the sprue plate on a cold mold, cast with it, the base was perfect but the rest of the bullet left a little to be desired.
a propane torch can be used to burn out 2 stroke lube that leaks into the nearest cavity. I pretty well eliminated this happening by using a needle-tipped bottle to apply the lube to the hinge side of the mold and a q-tip for the other applications.
