W-540 powder question

I wish they still made 571/HS-7,
Back when you could use lead for waterfowl it was my go too powder for 2 3/4" and 3" mag. 12 ga. shells. I have since found it to be excellent in the 40 S&W with 175-180 bullet.
I'm down to a pound that I am saving.

I've got some partial cans of long gone powder that I have been saving...but I've never finished them off. Got to make some shelf room by using them up; that is what I said last year but this time I mean it.

Range visit today. Cloudy, 65º, and breezy.
Not much tree pollen in the air after last night's rain, but lots of water and mud at the club.

Looking at your load data, I used 7.4 gr 540 for 1220 fps in my 6" Super 38 with similar bullet. Should work fine for you, mine would do 10-ring @ 25 yd if I did my part. Now I use HS6. Really like the Super 38.

The grip angle of the 1911 and my arm, just never got a long real well to get any accuracy to be bragging about. But I am happy with the function of this gun and my handloads for their first long workout. No FTF, no FTE, no stovepipes. Perfect functioning for all 300 rounds. That's pretty good for a out-of-the-box new imported gun and first batch of cast handloads. So that 10" group of 100 holes is good to me (shooting at aprox. 50 feet). Oh, and no lead fouling was found during cleanup.

Jon - now days doing my part is getting harder. 10" @ 50 ft with 2-hands would satisfy me. Good show.

I learned a bunch from this text. I have no experience at all with either WW-540 or with HS-6.
