I'm same way. If I can avoid a check, that keeps the cost down. I don't notice any difference in 45-70. All I have is Trapdoors. Nothing modern.

Bruce
Rifle is a Pedersoli/Navy Arms rolling block.

I just cast some 7mm Lee soup cans from a 6 cav mould I recently obtained from a site member. I also cast a few NOE 260-118 PB from my new 4 cav mould. These are destined for both my 250 Sav and .25-06. Alloy was 10:1(ww:lino)

Lyman 358665. 20-1 ladled at 720F. 166 grains, .358-.359" diameter. For the Marlin 1894. Sprue plate easily opened with gloved thumb. I really like the Big Jake gloves. They fit well and the leather is thick enough to provide good insulation and I like the extended cuff. Next time I'll drop the temperature to 700 and loosen the plate a little bit.

Lyman 457193 405-grainers, 100 keepers.

Don't know why, but didn't do much casting this past Winter, so have to start making up for the casting lazies. For sure, the Uberti Cattleman needs Lee's 452-252 SWC and Lyman's 454190, and should make another run or two of the NOE 311-188 FN Hunter.

Did get round to casting some Lyman 454190s, last evening. Only 50, though, as it was late and the single-cavity mould too slow.
