Weatherby .358 Win. Vanguard

I sent this one to JES , about 4 years ago, for a rebore from 308 Win. to .358 Win.
JES did a great job.
1 - 14 Twist. 3 groove.
It is a super accurate hunting rifle now.
It will shoot a variety of .35 cal. bullets well.
One of those is the " Gold Standard " RCBS, 200 gr. , G/C.
However, the Lyman 358318 HP may be my favorite.
I've killed several deer with this bullet.
Would also make a great Hog rifle.

Nice rifle and bullet! I wouldn’t mind such a rifle myself :)
Maybe one day, I’ll get a .358 win. It seems to have a near perfect powder capacity/caliber relationship for cast bullets.

For my applications, with cast bullets , I think the 358 Win. is a better choice than a .35 Whelen.
Of course, that is just one person's opinion.

I do like the 358 Win.

However, I don't know of any of the cartridges in the " 308 Family " that aren't great cartridges. ie., the 308 Win., the 7mm/08. the .243 Win. , etc.

Crap Ben! NOW I have to buy another mold. HATE when that happens! My 358 Win is in a BLR. I LOVE it and the caliber!

I don't have a .358 Winchester yet...but dangit Ben and all you other .35 freaks are gonna push me over the edge one day. Thing is, my .336 in .35 Remington will sling 220s at easily 1900 fps and that is about as much recoil as my retinas need.

Ian , my 98' patterned , Fajin stocked rifle is a joy and likes a 35-250 at 2100 fps , the very heart of jacketed I might add . It's about like shooting 1-1/16 oz 12 ga steel in an auto .

I fully understand that.
When you throttle this puppy up, it can become unpleasant FAST.

I picked up a NOE 360-232 it’s similar to a ranch Dog style. It’s well suited feeds in my RUGER and they don’t feed things well ;)

Grey = 358009
Blue = Arsenal 270g
Red = NOE 360-232

My three fav big 35 hunting bullet molds.

If ya would like to try. PM me pay postage and I’ll send ya some to try!

yeah they can get some recoil going.
I pretty much settled my load in by backing things down until the recoil wasn't too much from the bench.
it's actually pleasant [well pleasant isn't quite right but by comparison it is] when standing or sitting, but hunched over a bench it will rattle your teeth.
not saying much, the ruger boat paddle in 308 is the same way it down right sucks from the bench with jacketed loads, 10 rounds in and your pulling shots at random when you close your eyes and yank the trigger.

@CWLONGSHOT ;that wonderful Arsenal 270grs. I’ve never seen it in the Arsenal catalogue. Might it be an Accurate mould?
I’m still waiting for an opportunity to shoot my new Whelen barrel. I’ve chosen a quite heavy barrel, and it is threaded for suppressor. Together with the ergonomic GRS Berserk- stock, I’m hoping the recoil will be managable. A suppressor is a real game changer when it comes to percieved recoil.

. It surely could at that!!

I can confirm later. ;)

Can confirm positively this.

Last weekend I fired a group from my LR-308 (suppressed) and compared the exact same loads in an almost identical rifle (uppers were identical in fact) that wore an A2 flash hider. I must say the unsuppressed rifle was positively obnoxious in both muzzle blast and ACTUAL recoil compared to mine.

It wouldn't have been a fair test just to remove my suppressor because it mounts on a three-chamber muzzle brake.

I also Have a Vanguard 358 Win cut by JES ( always liked Ben's) Very accurate rifle 3 Groove rifling.
I shoot it a lot in the winter months because I don't have to worry about wind drift too much.
Mine is just the stock Gray Syn Stock but I have the butt filled with lead shot so It shoots better from the bench! It was far to light a rifle for my likeing with heavy .35 cal bullets ....It started life as a 25-06 Rem before JES recut it

Correction: originally a 7mm-08
