What caliber is this?

900-1200 grain boolit fired at 1200fps.

Calibers fall in that range?

Do any exist? Would it feed in an autoloader?

Besides the double rainbow trajectory, lead usage, & potentially dislocated shoulder, any downsides to such a beast?

30? 35? 45? 50cal? In 30 that would be a very interesting looking boolit.

Probably a 600 Nitro Express, or more commonly a 50 BMG with a large projectile, some of those range into the high 900's

Hhmmm . . . A 30 caliber 1200 grain barrel length bullet. Yep, interesting, I wonder if the bullet nose would stick out from the muzzle when chambered?

Well a 35 cal at 1200 gr would be close to 4.5 to 5 inches long, and a 30 cal would be 7 or 8 inches, I think any 30 cal bullet of that weight would be made on an extruding machine and would only work under water as it would be hydraulically stabilized.

Um...well, I guess it could have a 4 foot barrel if it had to. A magazine fed musket looking gun?

So in 30 cal the barrel would need to be something like 8.75', lol I don't see that one working out.

What I'm thinking of is a large bore with a slow velocity to eliminate gas checks while still providing similar energy to most high power rifles-06,308,ect.
If it worked in an autoloader it would be even better. I've been eyeballing all the overbore ar calibers & nothing out there delivers the energy at very low speeds.

Got a rifled shotgun in 10,12,16 or 20 ga ?
A rifled 1100,1187,Gold Hunter , mag 10 ,sp 10 would certainly meet the weight action and throttle authority suggestions. You can look for the 12 ga FH, many of the threads in assorted forums have data from 28-10 ga . Keeping in mind that a 12 ga RB tips in at 580 gr and a 10 ga at 700.

that would be 2+ oz's of lead.
the 700 wtf would do what you want with trail boss.
here is some of us C/B members shooting one in Wyoming at the big bore prairie dog shoot a couple of years back.

I think 20mm is guna be a scootch faster & heavier than I'm speaking of.
I do have 20 & 12 GA sluggers. I'm not yet setup to reload for them. It's on my list though. Taken many deer with each.

I'm honored that Fiver was able to post a vid!!!! Thanks! That round is insane and, I kinda want one. Next thing ya know he'll be posting pictures all over.
Brad would be upset if I had to collect enough range scrap to feed that monster. Or maybe he'd spy and try to recover the lead boulders it fires.

Though that still isn't quite what I'm dreaming of. It appears what I'm looking for doesn't exist....yet.
Something that fired 50bmg bullets at low speed with a case that would feed in semis. That would be close. I recall reading of something similar but, can't find any info on it now.

Look at JD Jones and his website. If anyone would do it, JD would be the guy. Best of all, he would to it right.

you wouldn't sling too many of them, the load is something like 112grs [or was it 212] of real rifle powder,
and 70gs of trail boss airc in that 700.

How long would a 1" boolit be at 1000-1500 grains? I have no idea how to calculate such information. The study of such does interest me. Any links or info on the subject would be appreciated.

The caliber size wouldn't matter much to me. The top speed and energy level being of more importance.

I wouldn't have any use for speeds above 1200fps certainly nothing over 1400-1500fps top speed. I'm thinking that heavy only to provide the energy at the low velocity cap.

Kinda like backward of what many attempt. Most are trying to push cast lead velocity whilst maintaining accuracy. I'm talking about slowing it down to a point where lead performs well with no checks hopefully, maintaining accuracy. Using the super heavy boolit to achieve the standard energy #'s the average high power enjoys. Nothing beyond that. I'm rather surprised it hasn't been done.

I had a 1" cannon and made a mold by drilling holes in a 2x4 and screwing it down on a 1x4 then marking holes inside to stop pouring at.
I don't remember what they weighed now but 600 ish grains sounds bout right.
that's about 1.5 oz's or a solid shotgun slug worth of weight.

where you might get close would be with an 8 guage shotgun.
they make slug shells and such for shooting cement and other stuff off mining equipment with the 8ga.
it's weight and speed sounds close to what you want.
if you could get brass shells for one that would be a workable solution.

If my math is right then a 1 inch diameter, 1 inch long bullet would weight around 2250 gr.
Make sure I am there to clean the berm after you shoot.

that would make a square load which shot shells thrive on, if it was for a rifle you'd want a bit more length.

I think we should nominate fiver for a reality show. It would be much better than what's on any show I've seen recently. The 2x4 mold sounds interesting.
My wife really wants an 8 GA though. Not to shoot more than once. She got to hold one at a gun show and likes to say 8gauge.

I'd prefer it be rifled. Doesn't sound like what I'm after exists. I don't have the capability to make a one off wildcat myself but, I do learn.
