I can see it now, a new TV show.
Welcome back to "Dude, hold my beer and watch this...." As fiver shoots a 3 pound 8 gauge shotgun......

Nah, he is good for two shots. The second just to be sure.

that 700 was totally scratch built.
JT done it on the same equipment we got the HM-2 molds started on.
lathe, mill, cnc machine, you know stuff Brad has in his garage.

Lol..he's short on a piece or two yet but, he's sure to have some more nice stuff turned out as he's learning machining quite well.

I watched the vid & then Googled the heck out of it(the 700) to learn all I could. It is quite an adventure. I have the HM2 6 cav Harris redesign.

I'm still looking. I wondered if it were a bad idea. However at the time the fairly agreed upon rules for shooting cast we didn't have the energy level standards we enjoy today. Melding the old with new seems reasonable.

Maybe I should look at it another way. Say I'm looking for 2500-3200ft lb muzzle energy. A top speed of 1200-1400fps. Does that one exist?

well you either jack up speed or weight to get energy.
if you want slow you gotta go big.

I'd bought one had they not made them illegal. That would be really fun from a boat with emptied/water refilled cans. By the time I'd learned of it -to late. Jet skiers to close and messing with my fishing spot could get a warning soda. Currently I keep a long rod with a 3oz sinker tied on for the jet ski warning system.

I was running some numbers based on energy and velocity alone.
A 950 grain boolit at 1200 fps gets the 3k ft lb there abouts. I know that part. Turning that into a caliber that will shoot accurate & feed in a semi is beyond my current talent set. I'm working on it.

I suppose you want to bottom pour too? Your mould will need to be made by Do-it, I think you can just leave the hook out.

I remember whiterabbit doing some of this before.
I think he got to 750 maybe 800 gr boolits in a 45-70 before he shut it down.
I really think you'll have to look at something in say 72 or 79 caliber to get in the ball park weight and velocity wise.
maybe the 585 HE or the shotgun from hell would get close too.
airc the sfh was only 800ish grains and ended up being a cut down 50 bmg case.
the trick is figuring length and width in a cylinder to get the weight you want and a proper balance so it isn't square.
start out square and get smaller diametered from there, once you get close adding a smaller diameter nose will add a bit more length.
then you have your weight and a diameter to work from with a reasonable chance of it working properly or of finding a round that is close nuff to save a ton of guessing.

The guy that did the 12 ga FH used a Savage action turning and threading 50 BMG cases for a 12 ga rim adapter. Full cases of fast rifle powder with 1200gr conical bullets , at 2000 gr (4.5 oz round numbers) the bullets are only 3 calibers long a 1-36 would be plenty fast enough and could be easily adapted to a Barret 50 or 480 platform for a semi auto or an 1919 M2 with no need to mess with head turning .

To go with a super heavy 50 cal snag a Magnum length Savage or Mauser with a bolt head suitable for the H&H beltless (416 Rigby maybe) could get you a straight case up to 54 cal 2.9 long . With a 3 dia length you'll be very close to 1400 gr and again with a 36" twist . Lot of authority in a thing like that .
For a standard action the 416 Ruger case is just a hair over 2.5 " so any old 110 or 98 could be used . For a 50 cal there's bound to be a short action 284 Win BAR around that could be rebbl.

The 500 whisper seems to be about the closest candidate I've found yet.
They list a 750 gr at 1050 for 1836ftlb and a 650 at 1900fps for 5k ft lb. It seems like a boolit in the 700 gr area may be just about what I've been looking for. The 700 at 1400 would net the 3k ft lb and might be attainable sans gas check without to much overkill beyond what I want
The 510 whisper looks interesting too. It appears even more so geared toward sub rounds with a can and, would fail the energy/ velocity I'm thinking about.
I'll get some more info on the 500 whisper.
