What is your weather today?

We have yer heat for ya, right here in Kalifornistan. On our way home from Nevada on Friday we drove through Death Valley on Tecopa Road, between Pahrump, NV and Tecopa, CA. It was toasty, 120*-121* the whole way. Marie had to stop at the China Ranch Date Garden, which was just fine. The Jeep's A/C is efficient, you could hang meat in that critter if the need arose. The "up" side to these furnace-like temps? You have the place to yourself, no Euro or Asian tourists crowding and pushing and jostling you. Winters are a mob scene.

All went well until about 3 P.M., when something I had eaten DEFINITELY DID NOT FIT. I'll spare you the details, just know that both ends were in full-jettison mode. I was one sick dude, and that continued through yesterday and into this morning.

California's Central Coast Amid The Insanity
Allen,

Hope you are feeling better.

We drove that road, from Baker to Pahrump, the first part of October of '19 on our way to Front Sight. Even then the temperature was in the 90s. It's a dry heat, though. ;)

Having spent 22-months in Victorville I forewarned everyone about chilly desert mornings.

Interesting landscape, to say the least.

The Amargosa River area is kind of otherworldly, and therein might lay its attraction for us. I did notice that while it was a brisk 107* in Pahrump, once past Front Sight Road going west you are in Kalifornistan, and the temps went up almost immediately (per the Jeep's temp reading). Truth to tell, 120* isn't uncommon in this part of the world. And yes, it is a dry heat--which can be deceptively comfortable. "Only mad dogs and Englishmen go about in the noonday sun." We can forgive Kipling for being unfamiliar with longtime desert denizens like Marie and myself.

I am feeling a bit better now than this morning, so things seem to be coming around.

Thunderboomers all night, the weatherman said severe warnings in effect. Much cooler this AM, 67 with a predicted high in the mid 70's. When it dries out some I will mow.

Not too bad today, 97* high and possible showers in the mix tomorrow. Humidity is up a bit (20%), which isn't oppressive but puts the kabosh on a lot of natural ignition potential. Temps are supposed to drop a bit more through Thursday, then heat up a bit over the weekend.

Early morning humidity of over 80% gave us a wet deck, but it was dry by 10:00. Then, about 1:00 a weird South wind started hanging out. High temperature was scheduled to be 72, but it was 76 tonight at 8:15.

NOAA says a 20% chance of overnight drizzle. Weatherunderground has not made any mention of it.

Speaking of rain, or more accurately no rain. Our local rain year ends Wednesday the 30th. Unless it rains between now and then, which would be short of a miracle, the 7.55" we've receive since July 1, 2020 is less than 38% of normal.

Almond and rice growers versus environmentalists, Northern California versus Southern California. California versus, Utah, Arizona, and Colorado. To paraphrase Paul Harvey, stand by for water wars.

It is so comical . . .

Cloudy all day today, and we had three short rainfall sequences complete with thunder and lightning. Very pleasant, about 71* with a light breeze blowing through our opened windows. THIS is my idea of a good summer pattern. I welcome it.

Went to the store o get 5 40# bags of dirt (if you can call it dirt) and found me a weather rock in the parking lot. 100% accurate weather indicator! 95F and high humidity, pushing toward heat warning.

Today reached back up "this sucks" wet and icky , peaked at 98 , 84 as I type .

The AC is making about 25 gallons of water a day to keep the ducks and geese in a pond when the rain doesn't keep up .

We need rain, grass is brown everywhere there isn't irrigation.
Rain to the north last night
Rain predicted to the south this afternoon.
no rain likely for my County today.
Rain predicted off and on for the next four days, best chance Sunday night.
Oh, It's Glencoe Days weekend.
In years past, Glencoe often gets a BIG rain, like 4 or 5 inches, during Glencoe Days.
That's how the annual Mud Volleyball Tournament started many years ago.
