What speed for cast hunting 30-30 load?

Yep. Plenty. I shot one with that bullet years ago running 2000 and it was plenty. I used RE15 but many powders would work well.

1600 will be fine with a soft hollow point. Broadside shots don't take much. A 380acp will penetrate & exit a deer broadside at close range half the time.

Depends on the law .
I'm required to have 1000 ft-lb at 100 yd for big game . A hot loaded 223 with a 55 gr SPBT will make it with 7# but a Remington 350 HP 45-70 out of a ported GG falls short about 7# . Cause a warden would write a guy with a 45-70 Marlin a ticket for not meeting the minimum energy ......

I "Texas Heart Shot" a hog with a Lee 170 years ago, at about 1800 fps, and it traversed the entire body cavity exited one of the hams.

The Lee or NOE 310/312-230 needs to leave the muzzle at 1780 fps a similar shaped 200 needs to hit 1900 .
A 278-124 fp NOE needs 2200 but cast of 75/25 WW-1/20 will punch .310 holes in 1/4" plate at 105 yd with just 2070 fps.
I don't have numbers for other 30 cal bullets .

The original inhabitants of North America killed about a zillion deer with 35 ft-lb , a rock and 2 sticks . The bow mat have actually been a step backwards from the atatle (sp)...

255 gr SWC 45 at 1100 will do 36" of pig front to back or top to bottom from powder burn to 50 yd . All 500 # ft .

In my work with the 32 and 30 WCF it isn't hard to get everything the jackets offer from cast.

I was testing this bullet with 29.5gr of H4895 and was getting sub 2" groups of a bench at 50 yards with open sights.

I will load more and shoot some over the Chrony. 1800-1900 is my guess????

bout there depending on barrel length.

I shot a doe going about 150 lbs at 70-75 yds with a 30 carbine revolver using a 98gr rnfp plain base at about 1050 fps number of years back. [bout the same alloy as your using]
she got sick, took about 6-7 steps and went down.
I walked up the hill to her and finished the job with a head shot, if I had taken another minute getting there I wouldn't have needed the second shot.

I'd just go figure out my sight settings at 50 & 100 yds and spend my time on the mountain.

One-example result here, FWIW......

Lyman #311041 from a Win 94 carbine, cast as a BruceB Softpoint (front 1/3 of pure lead, back 2/3 in 92/6/2), at 1800 FPS.....

Coyote at 115 yards got bang/flopped, entry at rear of left ribs (1/2" entry hole), exit at point of right front shoulder (1-1/2" exit hole).

I would have no reluctance to use this same load on the sub-compact muleys & blacktails that live in the zones I hunt within, to 150 yards. 5 shots go into 1-3/4" at 100 yards with open irons.

Got a 150# pig with 165gr COWW 40SW @ 25 yds, ~900 fps. Hit just off the tail and exited below the throat - broke a leg on the way out. IMO you need the speed for distance. 1800 should do it for for 50-75.

Applied definition of along the spine inside the cavity full length.

A 45 Colts at 1200 fps with a 454424 from a 16" carbine will do that also under 50 yd for sure .

I always understood that a Texas heart shot entered the rear.

Either end, usually the same results. It's almost always a poor shot to take, and I wouldn't make one on a deer unless I was very hungry and had no other opportunity.

I made a head shot on my deer this year with the 300 blackout. Nice yearling doe at 193 yards. Probably one of my proudest shots. No wasted meats and man does she taste good.
