What the flux?

Finding a good fluxing compound is not one of life´s great challenges. A sacrificial reductant that is available at no extra expense, does not release toxic fumes or stink- basic sawdust will do the trick, as you know.
But I have another, absolute requirement for my fluxing compound: there must be no live primers in it!
And since my woodshop is also my reloading room, I have been reluctant to use casual sweep-ups from the floor.

Then I realized, I produce copious amounts of a substance that should have all the right attributes: coffee grounds! I dried some, put it in a shaker that used to hold some herbal spice. Seems to work very well.

Yep, works great. When I tried it I just used fresh grounds, it only takes a tablespoon to flux the pot and the fresh stuff has some oils and bug chitin in it to help with reduction.

Sept. 10, 2021 Steve left us. You are missed.
Bet it smells better as well. I found a live primer one day when I dumped hot ingots on concrete . That was a surprise.
