While I no longer own it, I had a sporterized 1917 Eddystone that had a commercial rear Peep, that was fun to shoot cast with, I could say it was a favorite.

i don't own one but i had a rem m700 in mountain rifle, adl and bdl; savage m116 with adjustable brake and rem m760. i traded them all off(expect the 760, i gave her to my oldest son). nowadays i'm a 30-40 krag man. a 165gr ranch dog with h4198 going about 1900fps is my deer rifle.

Greetings
Have a low # (500,xxx) Springfield 03 original that I cannot remember if it was rebarreled. Gets a steady diet of RCBS 180 FNGC at about 1800 fps sized to .310 as I generally do for all our 06 military rifles.

My favorites in no particular order:

Garand, Red River Army Depot (6-65) rebuild. Only about a 3 MOA rifle, but very fun to shoot.
NRA Sporter clone, I made myself. A reliable 10 shot 1.25 MOA rifle with either case or those dreadful little yellow thingies.
Remington 4 groove 03A3, rebuilt by Ogden Arsenal and come to me unfired. A reliable 10 shot 1.75 MOA rifle.
1952 Winchester 70, a reliable 10 shot 1.75 MOA rifle.
Winchester 1917, I had not shot it enough to come to any conclusions about it full accuracy.

When I say "reliable 10 shot", I means that is what it will do anyday, when I am doing my part. I have shot many targets smaller, but any targer larger will be my fault.

Without a doubt the 30-06 is my favorite centerfire caliber. I also like the .308 Win., 30-30, 30-40 Krag and 45-70, but the good old "06" leads the pack.

Do you have a particular favorite bullet or are there several of them Charles?

I have a Springfield with 12x Leupold scope. Took a while but one day I managed this 10 shot sub MOA group. The load was a Lyman 311284 sized to 0.310" with 31.5 gns 3031.

So far, my '03 Spfld, made in 1921, with it's original barrel shoots very respectably. I'm shooting matches out to 500 yards and have been very pleased. Load is 18gr of 2400 under a 315 Saeco (from Meisters) bullet.

I did a chamber cast and my groove dia. is .312. So, I have moved to a .312 sizing die.

Rifle was set up for a Lyman SST and I have a 15X that I use. But I recently installed a Lyman 48 and shot a match offhand last week and again was pleased with the results.

Mine's an ersatz 03A1 USMC sniper, put together with a NOS WWII Type-C replacement stock, nickel steel receiver and bolt, and new Criterion barrel with a Unertl 8x (not USMC marked). I went a step further and throated it with a 1½º included angle throating reamer. If I squint just right, breathe through my ears, and will my heart to stop pounding for a couple minutes it'll return substantially smaller than MOA groups. Favorite load: NOE 309-169 (Elco) spitzer, seated long, over anywhere between 18 and 22 grains SR-4759. (It doesn't seem to matter exactly what the powder charge is within that range. Weird.)

I had three shots left out of a bunch of ammo which I didn't dare take back home with me, so I slung them at the bar code on the corner of a target so I could preserve the bullseye for another time. I then drove home with a big grin on my face!

"...new Criterion barrel..."

Those barrels are amazing, many magnitudes better than anything the armory or contractors made 75 years ago.

Favorite? Oh my. I tried the '06 only lately (I can be very thickheaded) and have come to love it dearly.

I have an 03A3 in a C stock that was worked over by an old stockmaker friend of mine. It's still military and you have to really know what you're looking at to tell, but he removed a lot of wood and it handles wonderfully for me.

I put together a Franken-06 with a 700 long action that was a John Plaster sniper rifle that suffered a bit in a fire. Mostly the water that came with the firemen did the damage. Pity too. The outside of the action/barrel were heavily pitted, the bore had ONE great big pit right in the middle. Then the above mentioned friend gave me a 722 '06 take off barrel and I found a stock online. Looks kinda funny but with the Plaster factory trigger it shoots very well.

The '06 is a wonderful round.

Favorite 06, Remington 1903.
Favorite 30 Finnish Nagant
Favorite rifle is K31

The Finn will actually edge out the K31 by a small margin on a regular basis.

Late last week, out for a walk in the woods. Early "flat back" 116. 28g H4198,behind a 175g 311041,as cast lubed with BW/Vaseline in just the "gap" above GC. Hits poa @100. Stock has had extensive stiffening...mainly in the forend. Put it this way,it's stiffer than any factory magnum profile barrel! Screenshot_20191103-174340_Gallery.jpg

98 Mauser, Shilen barrel 26" long. A co-worker built it for high power and found while he could beat the semi-autos in accuracy, especially long range, he gave up too much in speed. I swapped for a Rem 700 in 243 that looked like it spent years under a truck seat on the res. He machined his own receiver sights.

Well my favorite 30-06 would be any M1903 Springfield type rifle.
But the only one I ever shot cast thru. Is also the only one I currently own.
It is a $200 cash deal Savage early model Axis, with a cheap Bushnell scope. and feeding issues (bolt does not go back far enough to catch case head, you kinda have to do this back and jiggle thing).
I had originally bought it as a beat around to sight in, put in the back of the closet. Then take it hunting across the river in WV and PA if the chance ever came up.
Then I came here, and you guys helped me start loading, an easy on the shoulder, practice, cast bullet round for it.
Kinda a junk gun, but does its job and thanks to you guy's it is easier on the shoulder and more fun to shoot now.

I do love my 03A3, but you know, the T/C Compass ('06) is really growing on me. So far it's best with cast has been about 1.5". I shot some Sierra 168 grainers over 17 grains of 2400 the other day that gave me 7/16" at 100. Impressed the snot outa me. I'm gonna shoot it again tomorrow with the suppressor, see how it likes that. That load runs about 1326 fps.
