Where to get a PID?

There was a guy on the other forum selling them, but his hands were giving him trouble, so he quit. Anyone have another source? I don't care if it is a kit I have to put together or a fully assembled unit.

Thanks

I got mine from OBIII over on CB. It works just like it should. Very reasonable to work with too.

Not a bad price at all.

I got a couple extra thermocouples. I leave one in the lead pot and the other in the hole I drilled in the side of the heat treat oven. Just plug in a couple cords, set the temp, and wait for it to heat up.

How do you set up the heat treating oven for a PID? I've read that innerds had to be removed from the oven for the PID to work right. So, I've been just relying on a cheap oven thermometer and setting my convection oven temps by that. Then I monitor the temps while they cook, if the temp is close to slump temperature. Can you just set the oven for a higher temperature, set the PID and let it go?

That is what I do. Drilled a hole thru side of oven. Stuck a long thermocouple thru hole, it is 3-4 inches above the shelf I use. I set oven for max temp and the PID turns the oven on and off. Works just like it does with a lead pot.
I am using a counter top convection oven.

I can set the PID for a temp and once to temp the number doesn't change unless I open the door.

I've posted this elsewhere before, but anyways.

Some will want to buy assembled units. "Uncle Russ" on the CBA Forums supplies units assembled and also in kit form I believe. "Pigslayer" on the CBA Forum may be another option for those preferring to buy completed units.

The following links are a few of the ones that I know of that supply ready to plug and play units.

FWIW Aubers Q&A recommends a TC of no larger than 1/8" diameter for a faster response time in AIR as opposed to immersing in hot lead for instance. I went that route when fiddling around with a housing on my hot plate. And as I've mentioned here recently somewhere I didn't have much luck with a Mypiin controlling a hot plate nearly as well as my Auber unit does. Ditto for the Rex units. And I experimented with a probe in the air of the housing as well as the probe that screws into the aluminum plate that sits atop my hot plate. Both Rex and Mypin were satisfactory in the lead pots though.

This is my plan too...I have a lab oven just waiting to go.

Are these links recent? Many don't work.
