John I had good results with a 452-255 RNFP Lee @265 gr in a Colts 1917 . I used Speer 260 gr data from the #12 manual and seated them long into the top lube groove .
It the 454424 hasn't worked well in the stock 8/18 1917 Smith . I haven't but I suspect the Lee RF will I just haven't gotten that far yet .

I have run 30:1 Pb/Sn alloy in 38 S&W (Lyman #358477) to 700-725 FPS and the same bullet in 38 Special to 800-825 FPS with good accuracy and zero leading. Some 45 ACP/AR bore forms have relatively shallow grooves, since they were originally meant for jacketed bullet usage. Low & slow with 40:1 might work fine in such barrels.

A S&W Model 22 is s definite Grail Gun AFAIC. The 625 has been a GREAT addition to the safe, as well.

I agree with Al's earlier post.
I tend to stay within a rounds nominal bullet weight zone and rarely stray unless I'm just playing around.
I have done some stuff like go down to 165grs in the 45 colt, and I've made some 350gr bullets for my 44's a few times, heck I have even shot 250gr bullets in my 357 maximum.
I don't load buckets of stuff like that but I generally will do a small 20-25 count batch just to play with from time to time.
the 165's are fun and I do like shooting them in 45 AR cases in the 624, and even carry a few rounds in my pocket for grouse thumping while up deer hunting with the 45 colt lever rifle.
