Which one?

I'm looking at a couple of K-frame S&W revolvers. Not sure If I will make an offer.
One is a 5 screw, 4" barrel made in 1954 with Target Hammer, Target Trigger and a trigger stop. It looks like a K-38 with a factory 4" barrel. It has the correct stocks.

The other is a very nice 15-3 with a 4" barrel.

The 15-3 is clearly a bit younger but both guns are in very good condition and appear to be original.

Not sure if I'm really interested in the collector's value of the pre-model 15 with the target trigger & hammer....

Any thoughts?

OK, if the five screw is a heavy barrel, I would buy it first. If a pencil barrel I would buy that second. The 15-3 would be last. The 1950's were the last of the truly hand fitted K-frames, IMHO.

I am a user, not a collector. The 15-3 is +P-capable, if you are so-minded. That would be my choice.

I'm a shooter not a collector, put both of them in your hand....whichever feels the best is the one I would buy.

I'm with you. Unfortunately it's is looking like the 15-3 is not going to be available at a price I can live with. So the older model may be where I'm headed.

They are identical in that regard. They are both 4" Square butt K-frames with nearly identical stocks.

It should be a sweetheart with standard and mid-range loads. Depending upon how well it was cared for, it should be a great gun. Parts are available and I have a good S&W armorer if you think you need one.

It has been shot but clearly not abused.
Tight, in time, smooth action, clean bore, I would put the finish at about 95%. I don't think it needs anything but thanks for the offer.

I put a few target wadcutters through it today (and just a few with the heat index around 100) I think it will be a great gun.

Shot mine today at the range, and don't know why I don't use it more. Yours has all the bells and whistles, mine just has the plain sights and standard hammer and trigger.
