Will a spent case serve as a snap cap?

I just bought a Beretta Pico and from what I've heard you don't want to dry fire these, it will break the firing pin. Think a case with a spent primer would be safe?

Remove the primer, punch a hole in it and pry it out, then get a pencil eraser from a mechanical pencil, trim it to fit, insert it in the primer pocket, and you have a snap cap.
That sounds like a plan.

I made several using a hot melt glue gun and slow set glue stick. Made sure the primer pocket was completely full and trimmed flush when cured. Has worked for quite awhile on some .38 Spec. I use in a DAO revolver for dry fire.

The pencil eraser worked well but the hot glue sounds like a great idea as well.

For some of my pistols I removed the primer from a spent case and filled the primer hole with pure silicon sealant
When cured it is pretty firm but safe for the firing pin
