i don't think making the cups and anvils is the slow down, they just get punched out on a press.
loading the tray with the cups, filling them, and matching up the anvils to the filled cups is still done by hand, that's the bottle neck.
And it is not hard to blow your fingers off or get metal in your eyes. Talked a lot with a guy whose Dad was an engineer at CCI in Lewistown, ID. People who squeegeed the priming compound into the primers were very well paid.

yeah,, i can imagine.
i done some work out to ATK where they make priming compound and solid rocket fuel.
that whole place has a paranoid feel to it.

i rolled up to the gate, and the guard there starts in with the questions,,,, you got any lighters, ammunition, etc.
45 minutes later my scout weighs about 40 lbs. less, and his shack got a lot smaller.
i didn't know,, and it was hunting season.... LOL.
i mean if you don't want me bringing all that stuff don't go putting your plant out on the other side of the bear river refuge.
at least i didn't have to leave my canoe and duck decoys with him.
