WTB: 22 hornet barrel

I'm looking for a .22 Hornet barrel to fit a Savage 340, 342, or Stevens 322, etc...
These have the same barrel nut system as the 110 models, but different diameters. The 110 series small shank is 1.055" at the shank threads, and as best I can tell, the 340 series is .855 - .860 at the shank threads. The other difference is that the 340 series rifles use a cone breach vs. the flat breach face of the 110 series. I really don't want to change the extraction mechanism on the 340 to work with a flat breach face.
I've been watching the auctions, and I'm just not ready to pay $400 for the whole rifle, to scratch that itch!
Surely someone, somewhere, knows of or has a parts gun that has a barrel that's still good - and for sale!!

Let me know what you have and what you want for it. I have plenty of trade goods, or could come up with some cash.

Thanks folks!!

holy cow.
long time no see Don.

your right about the 110-340 differences.
good luck finding an original 22 cal barrel though, and especially one in Hornet.
your probably better off paying the 400$ or buying a new barrel and having it worked over to fit, either way [shrug] your looking at 400+.

The 325 I had was 30-30 . The 340 was a 222 . I only gave $200 for those . It hasn't been long ago .

I have several of the 325 and 340 models in 30-30, and one that was originally a 22 hornet. Unfortunately, someone in the past rechambered the hornet to .222 Remington, without opening up the ejection port or replacing the pieces associated with the magazine. Essentially making it a single shot. If that weren't bad enough, the rechamber wasn't done very well. Fired cases end up being @ .005 larger at the base than they should be. I don't think they'll last through very many load cycles before they separate.
I just want to return the Hornet to it's original configuration.
By the way, the smith's that I've checked with so far, want from $365 to $650 to make a replacement barrel for me - if I supply the barrel...

Check out Green Mountain . Look at the gunsmith round blanks or something like that . I see Bruce Frechette just built a new taper tool for his lathe to go with his spider . I'd bet he'd take on a challenge as a "test case" if he doesn't have one already lined up . I got a new phone I don't know if I have his number still or not . I'll look if you want it .

I've seen pictures of Bruce's new taper fixture. I'm not a machinist, but I think the real challenge is going to be the cone breach and the threads for the barrel to action.
I talked about this project at NCBS, and he didn't really show any interest - although I didn't ask him directly. I'll give him a call.

Thanks!

I've got a guy that is going to try to make up a barrel for me, from a Savage 110 style take-off. But I'm still looking for an original barrel - so back to the top, please!
