Thanks for the reply Charles. Sorry I was so late in replying. I was in North Dakota duck hunting. Man do I feel sorry for those farmers. Beans are 2 weeks to a month behind. No combining going on. Water everywhere, mud everywhere. There was some wet heavy snow that flattened some crops I'm sure.Well maybe...I have a Rem. 25 in 25-20 and wanted a receiver sight on it. The logical way to go, is use the sight you want, as the rear of the receiver is already drilled and tapped for it. A search of a couple of years of searching, did not turn one up, but it did turn up the Lyman R30 (for the larger frame Rem. pump guns) and a Redfield 80 TH for the smaller receiver models 12, 121 and 25). The Redfield mount on the side and requires drilling and tapping of the receiver side.
I decided to try and see it the R30 would fit. It actually is smaller at the mounting site that the R25. So, I opened it up with a file, little by little and made it fit. The holes don't line up perfectly, but close enough. It is still on the rifle, to this day. With the price of these sights these day, I don't think I would have had the cojones to take a file to it, just to find out.
I still have the Redfield 80 TH and it is NIB but has no screws, The screws are not a problem, as they are standard 6-48. It you want it, I am easy to deal with. I have had it for 30 years.
Yeah, I really like it. Then I saw and got to shoot a 14 1/2 in 44-40 with Brit proof marks. That is cool too and a good shooter to boot. Now, if only I could find one in 38-40.Neither did I, but I thought you might be less squeamish about drilling holes. I bought my 25 about 26 years ago. It is in high quality condition and is a great shooter.
I know it has been a while since you asked, but did you find the R25 tang sight?Oh heck, it can't hurt to ask. I picked up a Remington Model 25 in 25-20 and I'd like to put the Lyman R25 tang/receiver sight on it. Anybody have one they are willing to part with?
Well yes, I bought a rifle equipped with the the R25 sight. Sold the extra rifle last week and kept the tang sight. Now I have to get the chewed up plug screws out of my Model 25.I know it has been a while since you asked, but did you find the R25 tang sight?
Well I happen to be in need of a R25 site for my Remington 25 in 25-20, so unless I'm mistaken L Ross sounds like he no longer needs one but I would love to put one on my little Remington. I'll send you a message as well.Just recently seen you post, was going through some things from my late father and found one along with a few others that I am going to try to identify soon.
