I've joined the dark side. Looking for known-good moulds, brass, dies, etc., thought I'd ask before buying new, maybe someone has all the stuff and wants to unload it in a package deal?

Cash or trade offers, just ask in this thread please. I have a lot of cra------, umm, STUFF somebody might need more than I do.

I have a spare set of dies. They are hornady wispers. I also have formed brass but it's easy to make once you have the dies.

Looking for AAC dies, planning to only load cast at this point. Did you have any neck tension or crimp issues with the Whisper dies?

I haven't had any issues I use the noe expander. I also have a set of lee dies that are blackout. But they are not as nice. Your call? If you have something in mind as a trade let me know.

Still mulling that over, I'm not a fan of Hornady dies at all. Forster has a nice two-die set I'm looking at, will still need a crimp die though.

I have both the rcbs and the hornady die sets.
I really like the rcbs 30-165 silh booit in my AAC rifle, and in the ruger.

Ian:
there is a kicker with the 300 rifles.
my AAC and my ruger will both shoot the rcbs 165, but the ruger has a bit more chamber slop and will shoot boolits my AAC won't.
some will interchange easy enough, some choke the AAC, and some don't shoot well in the ruger. [shrug]
most of my 308 or 30-06 [specific] designed boolit molds don't do well in the 300's.
older stuff like for the 30 carbine does quite in the ruger, but has too much shoulder for the AAC.

if your getting a black rifle.
start over from scratch and follow what I wrote before about the 5.56 chamber over on the deal in lead site.

if L1A1 is helping, you don't need my advice I bet he has a handle on things.

oh one more thing brass prices are all over the map
silver state armory is expensive stuff and I like pro-grade better at half the price.
they are both specific made cases and load like it. [SSA is fine for jacketed]
cheap-o converted military cases work pretty well but the crimp removal is pretty dubious, and you still have to champher and case sort.

Thanks, Fiver, I need all the help I can get. I went ahead and done it, bought most of the stuff I think I need and L1A1 convinced me to just make the brass and is helping out with that. I plan on turning the necks to at least knock off the high spots, we'll see how it goes. It is an AR-style rifle (sighhhh....I don't like them much) and the barrel is super-tight, .298x.3075" with a .310" throat entrance, so most of my bore-riders won't chamber. I picked up a new 311299 mould in the hopes that it casts the typical undersized nose and will work. If by some chance it ends up casting the size it's supposed to, I'll use it for my M1A, so win/win.

I remember the 556 stuff you posted, about dealing with big necks and small throat entrances, but unfortunately all that stuff got obliterated in the hissy-fit last January.

Should have all the stuff to finish the rifle next week, will probably put it together at work since my boss has all the necessary tools. If all else fails I'll try the Lee version of Mr. Harris' bullet for now and have Tom cut a heavy mould later. My goal is to mostly do subsonic stuff with heavy bullets.

If you want to barrow, or come by, I've got all the "stuff" to put it together. Also, I've got the 311410 Miha mold - the one that has a bit more length forward. I've never used it yet so it'll need to be broke in first. BUT, you're welcome to it if you like.

Ian,

I looked and I have a 6 cav 300 BLK 235 gr mould, all PB it is an improved Lee copy.

I'd like to check it out, thanks!

Tell me more....especially nose length. I have a nice Lee Ranch Dog 30-30 mould you may be interested in, it's a WFN with radiussed nose edges, real lube grooves, and casts near .312" on the bands with WW alloy.

same as the one I got josh?
if so it should be super close to Ian's barrel.
I opened mine about .0005 for a slightly better fit to the bolt guns.

they'll be part of the next batch I'm gonna load and try as soon as I champher the case mouths and swage the primer pockets on the next 500 pieces of brass.
[siiigh]
never should have bought the wife one.

I might break down and manipulate the LEE through the system and get Tom to cut me a lighter plain base mold for the slow end.
230grs isn't all that necessary for pop--whack at 50 yds.
heck the ACE mold without a gas check should work.
jeez I need to get after this and some other shooting projects a little more, instead of goofing off fishing.

Here is a few pics, I will have to check the diameter but it looks like this, that isn't the exact mould but it is a sixer:

I also have the 144 gr mould here as well that Lamar is talking about, it is on the left:
