It pretty much looks like Henry has "out-Marlined" Marlin. Corporate America is failing. Why? Because they sell what they want you to buy, not what you want to buy. Ever notice all the smaller gun companies that have sprung up over the last decade or so? Gun making seems to be reverting to a cottage industry.

Think that was the guy who cut the extractor location for my M700 223. When I got it, it was hard to close the bolt on a round. Most of the time it would break a secton of the rim off the case. Figured the extractor was oversize, chip behind it or something. Picked up a new extractor, cleaned the bolt and same thing. Ended up grinding down the hook to make it work right. The thing is one of the most accurate rifles I own so I put up with it.
While I was going through this I happened on a Rem rep at a Sportsmans wharehouse opening in Wichita. Told him of my troubles and he just shrugged and said "Never heard of it". He turned and walked off, not interested at all.

Cerberus Capital Management. Ominously, those who don't know their Greek Mythology,
Cerberus is the Three Headed Dog that guards the Gates of Hell. Whatever that means - does not
sound good to me. They specialize in buying "distressed" companies and then selling them for a
profit a few years later. Again, sounds ominous to me.

They own Freedom Firearms Group, which owns Remington, Marlin, DPMS, Bushmaster, AAC Dakota
Arms, Barnes Bullets, H&R Firearms, Para Firearms (ParaOrdinace), Remington LE, Remington Military
and TAPCO, plus a few others.

CCM is a NYC corporation that owns corporations, buying and selling like poker chips. Not conducive to
getting management that is dedicated to the highest quality, it would seem. Freedom FG is their firearms
group, subsidiary. They own MANY, MANY other companies.

Ceribrus I'm told translates to something loosely meaning thick haired dog ....fluffy .

Yeah it doesn't help that people just don't have pride in work because the bottom line IS the bottom line .

From a source on Greek Mythology, and I knew this already from studying it in HS. Here is an ancient
Greek statue.

Cerberus – also known as the “hound of Hades” – was the multi-headed dog who guarded the gates of the Underworld, preventing the dead from leaving, and making sure that those who entered never left. A child of Typhon and Echidna, he was part of a monstrous family, which included Orthus, the Lernaean Hydra, and the Chimaera as well. Only on three occasions Cerberus was tricked by visitors of Hades: Heracles did it with his strength, Orpheus with his music, and the Sybil of Cumae with a honey-cake.

that list worry's me, as do the others.
just one of those company's going under or showing a loss for too long and it gets chopped.
that cripples many of us, and drive up the costs from the competition.

As long as the masses of Joe Sportsman continue to buy them then nothing will change. We ARE NOT the core customer of the firearms manufacturers.

I don't own a Marlin nor a Remington product so can't speak of their past and/or present quality, but here's my take.

Given that a financial investment entity is beholden only to its principle(s) and shareholders, the quality of the products and services of the companies it owns is secondary to the rate of return of the investments of its shareholders. Eventually, though, quality will erode to the point that customers look elsewhere for their products or services.

Capitalism works, when it works, and fiddling round its edges is doomed to fail. Some companies, regardless their names and histories, should just fade away and end everyone's agony.

I too felt concern about the company calling itself "Cerberus". I studied Greek mythology as well, and the negative connotations. BTW, Bill nailed Cerberus perfectly. I remember saying out loud that nothing good could come from having all these firearms companies under a single ownership, and I was told that it was too early to be looking for "commies" under my bed, and quite honestly, that didn't sit well with me for some reason:). I like it even less now!
