Reading this inspired me to order 250 new Starline cases for my Win94 in 375 Win.

I can easily see powder coating the bullets after checking.

I couldnt agree more!

Im looking at a Henry Single shot. I only hesitate cause I have read some mixed reviews. But its a hansom Rifle for sure.

Ill bide my time. Maybe Ill cross something used. But I think a Single shot is where its at. No limits on OAL because of action or magazine.

I had a H&R and Contender carbine but sold them
Off.

A single shot 30-30? Blasphemy.

A 30-30 needs to be a Win 94 or Marlin 336 to REALLY be a 30-30.

Is there a more iconic rifle than a 30-30 Win 94?

I do like my rolling block 30-30, but the groove is an odd size, pedersoli messed up a little on it and I had to come up with a sizer that would work, but it shoots great with cast and tang sight

My blasphemy knows no bounds. Proud owner of both a Chicopee Falls and an Utica Savage 219. One I know for certain has kept starvation at bay at one time, and both are fabulous shooters.

Agree with all of the above that the .30-30 is the ideal cast bullet cartridge. Over the years I've had bunches of .30-30 rifles. One I most regret selling was a Winchester 54 carbine, which came out of Mexico and had a trashed bore and broken stock. At the time I did't want a gunsmithing project, but the fellow who bought it put on a new Obermeyer barrel duplicating the original contour, remounted the factory sights and had the original stock copied on a pantgograph in nice walnut. It turned out really nice, but was more than I would have spent. Today I have an older Winchester levergun. Not in the correct serial number range for a "Spruce Gun", but similarly configured late 1920s carbine with ladder sight.113481134911350113511135311354

I know this thread started a while back, but still a hoot to read again as well as the new post. Mine started with a well worn 336 with a trigger so sweet it belongs on a bench gun. Then came a "94", then came a Teddy Roosevelt 94, then a savage 340, after that Numrich rolling block then I found a Savage 840, and I just missed a Remington 788 because I blinked too long at the Price of $650. Thats my story and if the truth be told it will continue because my other half likes them just as much as I do.

Well I'm not going to argue for repeaters because I have a few lever actions myself.
I was just talking about the casual enjoyability of load a specialized 30-30 round in a custom single shot shot from a bench rest! ( oh yeah...with cast!)

At the casting bench in the sky. RIP Bret.
I've always thought a Stevens 44 done up in 303 Savage or 30/30, or 32 Special for that matter, would be a sweet rifle.

I often thought a 30/30 single shot re chambered to 30/40 would be a nice thing as a hunting rifle with cast.

It’s case has a good long neck and lil better powder cap so should be better with heavier bullets I prefer.

Then we Henry single shots are good looking pieces.

Well, I have a couple of 30-30's, the always handy Marlin 336 (haven't shot it since 1979) and a new to me Uberti replica 188530-30 Uberti.jpg30-30 Uberti2.jpg Highwall. Bought it cause it seemed to be a interesting single shot in a very good caliber. A huge plus is that it's a shooter with it's Vernier sights mounted on the tang. Hit steel every time at 100yds if I do my part.

Rem 788's would still be a contender in "Hunting" rifle, if anyone could afford to buy one at todays collectors' prices.

30-30 788s are rare. But if you want to really get a good trigger, go for the Timney. I have done the mod, but it isn't a neat solution. I have installed a Timney on a 788, good stuff!

Boy-o-boy, $164 MSRP, the price of sin has risen...

Canjar went out of business [late 90s?]. The mythical 541 [?] trigger is unobtaneum. Timney is it, and it's a darn good choice...

Another good choice IMO is the Velocity Trigger. I put one in my creepy 5#+ pull AR15 Grendel and it made a world of difference. Breaks @ ~3# according to my gauge.

It's on my wish list. I did the modded factory trigger too and it worked good0 for a while. Then the pot metal started letting go, probably my fault for being a bit ham handed. I really want a Timney before they disappear.

A little background on Velocity Triggers:

Velocity Triggers is a new company founded by Tom Vehr, who has more than three decades of experience designing and producing triggers. Vehr has an impressive resume including fourteen years of experience with Timney Triggers where he ran various aspects of production ranging from design to tooling to testing. In addition to working with Timney, Vehr also worked at Knight Rifles and founded Vehr Manufacturing, which is the parent company to Velocity Triggers.

Talk about thread drift. I apologize.

Still wondering the same thing after this last post as the one before, I went to Velocity's site and sure enough, only AR triggers (nice ones, too), I couldn't find a thing for the 788. Am I missing something?

Well Ian, it is classic thread drift. I got one for my AR15 6.5 Grendel, and I think I said AR15 GRENDEL in post # 54.;)

Funny. I went there, too, and not knowing he makes only AR-15 triggers. I don't own any flavor of AR.

Oh. I thought you were mentioning the brand to Elric and Bret as an alternate to the Timney for the 788...hence my confusion. But good drift, I added Velocity to my "endorsed" AR parts manufacturer's list.
