Your Own Shooting Ability ? ? ?

Good shooting Dale. Having shot close to 20 elk with my bow I don't try to drag anything. It took a few to get the technique down. I skin one side off and take off the meat. Then I pull the skin over that side and roll it over. Repeat process. A deer is a piece of cake if you aren't trying to get out all the bones and skin. I cut up my own animals too so I know where to cut. Last year I shot a moose. I found they don't roll over too easy because of the hump on the shoulders. I ended up using a come a long to roll it over. I was glad to be about 150 yards from my truck. I also carry two LED headlamps with extra batteries. If I shoot it in the evening it will be way after dark before I make it out.

GaryN;
Ohio requires you to take your deer to the check in station field dressed but whole. We have no Elk, of course, but LOTS of whitetails. I live in town and I have them walk through my yard...

At any rate, at age 80 I'm just flat not up to hunting any longer. I sure did my share when I could, however, so NO complaints.

Dale53, I admire your shooting skills. I'm 60 and due to not so good eyesight and another physical malady, can no longer produce targets like yours. Still enjoy shooting though. Usually take about 200 to 300 rounds of assorted calibers to range and end up going through 50 to 75 rounds. Still have just as good a time as when I would go through 300 rounds or more.

Thanks for the kind words, folks. I started casting bullets and reloading when I was about 14 years old. I was fortunate to have a father who was a certified "gunny". I did all of his experimenting for him. I loaded nearly all of our ammo. He was a serious trap and skeet shooter. I did the patterning work (actually counted the number of 7½ shot in a 1 1/8 ounce shot load, etc). He also shot pistol and as a result of my "training" I learned a lot at an early age. I was one lucky son of a gun to have a father who was interested and truly taught me...

My life was SO much richer for the skill set he gave me. It enabled me to succeed in a life that would not have been possible without those beginnings.

I shot silhouette for over 30 years but age, cataracts and 30 years with diabetes ganged up on me so it ain't gonna happen anymore for me either, pretty sad but was sure fun while it lasted. :)

I know Dale and 45 2.1, so good to see them here. We are all old farts of course.
All of you are richer for having my friends here.
The worst thing ever is to not meet everyone, take a hand and give a hug.

James, good to see you here! Yeah, we are definitely "Certified Old Farts" but still quite active (shooting, casting, lubing, and reloading).

That we are! I am near 78 and I am going to "rack them and stack them" again with a revolver.
It is so good to see you here. Just don't make fun of my hat! That lid has been worn for hundreds and hundreds of deer. My secret?
