350 Legend powders

At the casting bench in the sky. RIP Bret.
So the 350L case will only hold about 25 grs 3031 seated to the base of a 200 gr bullet?!! I was under the impression it was a larger cartridge than that, never having seen one in person.

A 350Legend case is basically a straight 223/556 case.

Winchester expanded the base of the 350L, making it a rebated rim case. But its minimally different I don't think it changed powder cap.

In reality, it is nothing more than a 357 Max which will function in an AR, and not that big of a case. Same basic size as a 357 Max case, which is a 357 Mag case with an extra third of an inch of length. Not all that capacious. It's BIG, when you think of it as a 35 cal revolver round, but not so much even compared to the 30/30 or 7.62x39.

I gave Ian some #'s a while back on the Lee bullet. He ran them through quickload. This load shot very good but was over max. This was out of my AR15.

Bullet length was. 0.87"
1.70" case length
36.4grs of water cap
2.155"oal

22.5gr 5744 is over max pressure. it showed 59K in quickload. 21-21.5 would be safer.

My barrel also had a very short throat so that may also be why I had pressure issues with almost everything on it. The bullets had to be seated father in the case taking up too much room. My ruger did not have to be seated as deep and I have not had any problems at all with anything I load in it.

Getting back to this…

I‘m not sure why, but I ended up loading 3 rounds in the 450 Bushmaster with 15grs of 3031, enough poly fill to fill up the airspace and 235gr cast bullets. Yeah, I know this is a 350 Legend and I’m scratching my head as to why I loaded 450bm this way and I have no freaking idea.

Anyways, took the 450 out with these loads and some others yesterday and figuring there could be a problem with these I shot them last. Actually, only shot 1. Sounded like a bottle rocket launching and I had to pull the bolt out to check if the barrel was clear. It was, other than about 14 grs of unburnt 3031 in it. :). I didn’t bother shooting the other two, I’ll pull the bullets and save the components. So lessened learned, 3031 doesn’t work for light charges!

I like to shoot 1000 fos loads in my bolt 450. I use a Lyman 450g bullet and Unique. Herco didnt have the pop and needed 1400 ta preform. Then all of a sudden they wasnt stabile. So I switched to a 380g Lyman still fun and fully stabile.

I do simular in the 350 Bolt with a 270g and Herco. Its 1:16 twist is marginal stable @ 1000 so the 230g is better.
