357 Rossi 92 for deer

I plan to use it for deer, maybe 50 to 65 yards. Using 158 gr cast gas check bullets. So far my best accuracy from the bench with a green dot sight is around 3 to 3.5 inches
Should this be good enough for deer. I'm still working on loads. Thanks, johnny

plenty good.
the lyman plain base 158gr. bullet i use [358664] works just fine.
not very fast, not very hard, two holes no problem.
[i use 7grs. of herco, in starline cases]

I have taken 4-5 with a 357 Magnum. Two with my Marlin 18" and Cast 170g. 2-3 with my Whitetailer revolver and 140 Speer HP bullets.

All under 100y most 40-75y. All died very quickly after impact I don't remember any getting out of my site.

With a full boat load the 357 isn't far off the 30-30 .

The 1894C JM I had gained 400fps over the 6" Sec 6 .
14.5 H110 under a Speer 170HC gave 1410 fps MV from the rifle data in the Lyman 48 .
I gave my Dad a full box there's 47 left , and about 25 bullets left in the box .

Have the 180 NOE WFN, conventionally lubed. My Rossi carbine likes 11.5 grains of 2400 in R/P yellow brass for 1577 fps with the 180 WFN. However the groups are 3" low at 100 yards. A load that shoots to POA, at 100yds, is 14.5 grains of H-110 (magnum primed) in Starline brass. Never ran that load over the Lab Radar but significantly faster than the 2400 loading.

Also load the Sierra 170 HP with 12.5 grains of 2400 in W-W yellow brass. Notes say 3 shots in 7/8" at 60 yards. Again, it shoots about 3" low.

Never used the Rossi on deer sized game. No need when I can just as well grab the Marlin1894 in 44 Magnum. But good to know it's an option.
