44 mag bullet test

Understand. Interested in this long range project but I do hunt with the SRH so I was just asking. A bullet designed for the SBH 10.5" silver horn pipe would be very interesting also.

Once I have the mould I can cast some and send them to you to try if you would like.

Brad I'm not sure that much bullet above the crimp groove would fit the Blackhawk cylinder. I'm heading in from work hopefully later this morning. When I get back I'm going to do a pound cast on both Super RedHawks. I can easily see where this could go real fast!

That bullet will be too long for a SBH but is fine in the SRH.

I'm hoping the one I have coming from Tom will be a good fit for the Blackhawks. Based off of what I see with my SRH's and the results you see I will probably end up with that mold you ordered for the SRH.

Don't order one yet. Let me see how well theory and reality coincide.
I am more than happy to send some bullets your way for a "try before you buy" session or two.

Roger that Brad! Appreciate that offer. I'll report on the results with the Blackhawks.

here is a picture I lifted off 44 man [I hope Jim doesn't mind]
but he cut this mold himself for the 44 mag cylinder throats and for the nose to fit his 11* forcing cone in the barrel.
anyway it illustrates the [2 angle] nose shape pretty well, I'd still like to see the nose radiused on the edge a bit better.

Brad and I discussed that post a day or so ago. Jim was a bit confusing in his posts saying a wad cutter won't shoot long range accurately because of it's bearing surface, the bullet he claims to shoot so well long range has fairly generous bearing surface. He also stated something about length of bearing surface determining twist rate, not bullet length. ???

There is a reason I didn't go 4 cav brass. I have enough of those monsters.

yeah Jim gets wrapped up sometimes and looses his train of thought.
he can also get a bit scattered and repentant about things too.

This time I compromised on 2 cav Al moulds because I bought 2 new moulds! I was a bit taken back at how light these moulds are but they make a great bullet. I don't miss the weight towards the end of the casting session.

I cut my teeth on 2 cavity RCBS's iron molds......bought a 2 cavity aluminum 311414 SP from NOE. Could never get it to cast right......bought it again in 4 cavity and gave the two cavity to Rick. I couldn't cast fast enough to get it to hold heat. I'm a bottom pour junkie, while Rick ladle casts. No more 2 cavity aluminum's for me.

I really like the 2 cavity aluminum molds.
2 cavity steel molds are fine too.

I have a bunch of lyman 4 cavity molds and some of them get stupid heavy after a bit.
I have started chopping some of my handles off so I remember to get the weight more in my hand and not so much out on the end.
after a while of holding them a foot away it feels like holding a bowling ball on a ruler.
cutting the handles down gets the weight more in your hand so you can use your bicep muscles and not on your wrist.
