I found this old group buy mould a few days ago and bought it.
The mould arrived today.
I'm very pleased with the " numbers " on the nose, 1st two drive bands and remainder of the bullet.
The front two drive bands are .300", all others .312".
Should work very well in just about every .30 cal. rifle that I own.
As usual, I had to drill and tap for my 10-24 set screws.
Then set the correct tension on the sprue plate screws , then lock them down.
Smooth sailing with this one.

Ben,
You ever try the 311467? Did pretty good for me in the 06. Got one I'll try to get down there before Christmas and let you try it. Pace is 90 miles per hour around here right now./beagle

467 is great in the 06', I have one.
Wouldn't work in my particular situation in this " no throat " 30-30 however.

A whole lot of 30/30 WCF chambers fit that 'No throat' description IME, Ben. Life with the 30/30 using castings got a whole lot better once Lyman #311041 landed at my place c. 1990. I messed about with #311291 for 10 years before I went with Lyman's mainstay for the caliber.

I arrived late at Loverin Station, esp. in 30 caliber. I have one--#311467. It's a no-go in the 30/30, but like you say it behaves itself in the 30-06. All of the Loverin designs benefit from a tin-richer alloy than my usual 92/6/2 Taracorp, so I add 10 oz. of Rotometals tin to a 20# melt of 92/6/2 default alloy to bump it to 90/6/4 (+/-). This alloy a Lyman #2 (90/5/5) are the best I've found for fill-out in the multi-groove designs like the Loverins.

My grandson Trevor and I finally made it to the range today.
Trevor ( age 14 ) shot the Ruger # 1 stainless, 30-30 .
The load was 7.2 grs. of B'Eye with the 311407 sized .311 with a Rem. 2 1/2 pistol primer. Here is the 10 round group that he shot at 50 yards :

By the way, I'm very suspicious of the hole " At 1 O'clock ". It may be a pulled round ? ?

By the way, I'm happy with the way the 311407 is shooting in the 30-30.
That's one load down and about a " bazillion " more to try on other trips to the range.

Why is it that every time you have a successful trip to the range with a load you have worked on, it seems to spawn any number of new ideas to try? I am never done with load development. Always new adjustments to try. Not complaining, mind you, just voicing one reason why this is such a fascinating hobby.

Yes, although the group ( for a 14 yr. old ) is pretty impressive, you have to ask, what might happen IF :

  • If I change the diameter of the bullet ?
  • If I change to another powder ?
  • If I change the OAL ?
  • If I change primer brand ?
The list goes on and will give me a good reason to get to the range again soon with the rifle.

My grandson Trevor and I changed scopes on the Ruger # 1 , 30-30 Win.
We removed the large target scope that we had been using for load development and replaced it with a Burris 1.5 - 6X Signature, a scope that is much more suitable for hunting deer. Super clear optics on this one.

Trevor and I zeroed the scope at 50 yards.
Trevor then fired 30 rounds of 311407 as fast as he could work the lever and get a fresh cartridge into the rifle.
Here's the results :
