A few years back, on a vacation in Colorado Springs, I picked up a M38Mosin Carbine for $82.00 there were for and I picked up the best bore. It is sure nothing fancy, but it is the only military carbine that I own to shoot CBA postal matches. I placed last year, but there were only three shooters in the issue carbine class. The eyes are not great at 76, but have been working on this weapon now for the past couple of years, and today I shot 3 5 shot groups with it at 50 yds that stayed around 2", one a smidge under.
Load was 16.2 gr. of 2400 under a .3145 314299, Bh 17-18, Balkan Brass, win pr, and a minimal pinch of Dacron. Now I Know that 2" at 50 yds is nothing to write home about in most rifles, but for this late wartime (1942) Mosin, I am satisfied at this point. At 16 gr. it hangs in about 2 1l/2 to 3". I am in hopes of finding a consistant load for this carbine as issued that will stay under 2" consistently. I welcome any advice for M38 loads. Thanks in advance for any advice offered.

I shoot this bullet only at .314 diameter in my M39, it runs 245 gr and with 20 gr of 2400 has plenty of punch. It will normally run sub inch at 50 yds and roughly 2" at 100

No sir, it has standard sights. When I bought it from Pat Burns it was listed as new bore unissued. I believe that!
