Don't own a 40 S&W, let alone a 10 MM. Went with a friend to a LG store that had a indoor range. They rented pistols.............could only shoot factory ammo in them. Friend was interested in a compact semi auto. He rented two same sized compact Glocks in 9 mm and 40 S&W, along with a first generation/model S&W compact. I shot them all. Didn't find much, if any recoil difference, between the 9 mm and 40 S&W in the Glocks. I shot the 40, slightly better. I preferred the Glocks over the S&W compact. Friend preferred the S&W compact and eventually purchased one. When S&W came out with the new model 2, I went to the LGS and examined it. Hated the new improved (abrasive) stippling. I went with the Sig P320 RX Compact.
Don't own anything larger or smaller than 9 mm in a centerfire pistol. Currently, own six 9 mm chambered firearms. When I want more power, its in a revolver.
