Going to be putting one of these together. Wanted one for a looonnnggg time. Because it'll really be a range toy I've never plunked down the funds for a colt or other exotic & don't care for keltec/hipoint stuff. Wondered if anyone here has any hi cap 9mm rifles?

Not yet. Sounds like a fun project.

I hear really good things about the new Quarter Circle 10 dedicated Glock lowers and Glock 18 magazines. Lots of support at arfcom, cnc gunsmithing, and other places around the web. Are you thinking of scratch-building or converting an existing AR-15?

I had a Colt Sporter follow me home recently. I slugged the barrel and the groove diameter across two of them was 357 and across the other two was kind of a "heavy" .3575 to almost .358. I buddy sent me some 358-125RF cast of pretty hard alloy and sized to .359 and lubed with Lithi-Bee. I was able to put together about a 2-3" group at 50 yards with 5.0g of Power Pistol. With an actual load workup and a decent optic, I am sure it will do much better- but this isn't meant to be a tack driver. Minute of grapefruit at 50 yards is good enough. I took it to the steel gallery at the range and promptly wore out my thumb reloading magazines.

Once I get my new sizing die, I'll do a proper load work up and go from there.

Downside to the Colt is the magazines are copies of the Uzi. Uzi mags will work- which is good, but they won't trigger the bolt hold open. Both are a pain to load because you just push the bullet straight down. Uplula or other loaders don't work. That said, they are a ton of fun.

Here's the review on another one. This one takes Glock mags. https://www.full30.com/video/68106db00826b6e0bf386091fecafa39

I am now pining for a suppressor because.....well......America!

If you are an AR fan and cast, you should have one. Cheaper to feed than an M&P 15-22. You should do it. Even without the suppressor they are more enjoyable to shoot than a .223/5.56.

I've avoided 9mm entirely because starting out on my own in this hobby the gun rags at the time influenced me to believe that 9mm was no good, and by the time I grew out of believing that nonsense (or gun writers) I had already invested heavily in other calibers. Now there's simply no room for another pistol/carbine combo, holsters, magazines, accessories, buckets of brass, boxes of bullets, another dedicated progressive press, another can, and all the other stuff that goes with it. I'm kinda sad about that, a 9mm carbine would be the cat's behind. 30 rounds of .45 ACP makes for a HEAVY magazine and kind of takes the fun out of a high-cap PCC. 9mm would make that MUCH nicer.

1. Doesn't need to be a combo. You don't have a carry gun in .223 do you?
2. Magazines come witj the gun
3. Same accessories for your AR will work. No new ones needed.
4. 9mm is very space efficient
5. Who has a dedicated press for every caliber? If you have to have that, just get a Lee turret for $100

'cmon, Ian....you know you want to. Think of all the money ypu will save because 9mm is so economical. Much cheaper than any other caliber.

just teasing...

that small magazine is the only complaint I have with the HI-point carbine.
it eats everything [even stuff my other 9's choke on] shoots light loads as well as heavy ones, you could use it as a jack handle in a pinch,
and it's accurate.
a red-dot sight would add another 25% to the fun factor.
I wouldn't own a hi-point pistol for free.
but I'm keeping my eyes open for another carbine, I might even break down and buy one in 40 cal.

talking Ian into a lee progressive is like talking a mouse into buying peanut butter.

You guys are NOT helping. Everyone knows pistol caliber carbines eventually breed multiple companion handguns, so might as well get that out of the way up front. Go Glock magazine lower so you can interchange mags with your Glock 17, because (like me) even if you hate them you should still own at least two Glocks because they will be among the Tupperware and cockroaches when everything else on earth is toast. Uplula Glock mag loaders are widely available. So are Glock mags, so stock up. Need Molle pouches for those because 5.56 pouches are all wrong for them. Guns NEVER come with enough magazines, ever. Must buy ten at least because you never know when some nutbag's escapades will lead to a sudden intergalactic condition of "out of stock, no backorder". I designed my loading room around four progressive press stations, and currently they're all occupado, plus I need one more for .38 Special now that 300 BLK took over that press. Two minutes to change calibers is too long, I think Fiver can appreciate that sort of economy of energy since he selects powder so he can load three different calibers with seven different powders and never touch the adjustment on the powder measure. All my ammo shelves are jam packed with boxed and bucketed brass and loaded ammo, no room for 9mm. 9mm would be like crack or meth, can't just keep shooting the same 1,000 cases, got to have a 55-gallon barrel in reserve and process it by the 5-gallon bucket to keep all those guns and magazines fed.

So no, you can't just get a 9mm carbine and call it a day. I can't, anyhow. ;)

But trust Fiver on the Hi Point carbine, they really rock. The triggers suck, but you won't care because you'll still be able to hit what you shoot at. They're heavy, but the big smile you will have tearing up cans and plates on the rack takes off three pounds. They're ugly, but the sights aren't bad and that's what you'll be looking at the most. The only thing you'll be cussing is the lack of a sack full of loaded magazines, because 10 rounds lasts no time in a Hi Point carbine. When you run dry, you'll want to reach for that companion handgun, and wish you had a dedicated progressive press with a 55-gallon drum of ammo because you only have three boxes left in your range bag...........

See why I'm still avoiding 9mm?

Well I went and did the unthinkable. Something I'd swore I wouldn't do after the first time but....
I ordered a psa barreled upper. The first & only barrel (556) I ever bought from them was great. It shot inside an inch @100. It wouldn't chamber cast but, it shot great with jax. At round 300 all was lost. No measurable throat erosion or noticeable problems but, 12" was it's new standard. I replaced the barrel with an hbar from another vendor. I tried just about everything to make it shoot again before replacing. The only issue I found with it is the chamber neck was on the tight side. When I eventually throated that barrel it was the softest steel I'd ever experienced. Like paper machete might have a tougher feel soft. Pretty much gave that barrel away. Been pleased with the receivers.

I caught one of their sales on the necessary parts excluding some I have on hand. I've located an hbar for replacement already if that proves necessary. The cost of the build even with the replacement barrel is still much below what most are going for.
I went with their lrbho dedicated glock mag lower. Not being a glock guy I ordered up some KO-REEANNN mags & drums for it. Hopefully I'll be able to make it all work together with cast & buckets of orphaned brass. We'll see I guess.
Being a range blaster type of gun I expect to have to tinker a bit to trick it in to working well.
I hear such great reviews on the hipoint but just can't do it.
Feeding a 9 up here is all taken care of. More adopted 9 than I've time to play with

I've thought about a 9mm carbine, but the $$ keeps stopping me. My 5.56 upper is soft shooting with cast, and I have almost as much 5.56 brass as I do (range pickup) 9mm. As of late I've worked up some really soft shooting 300BLK supers with the RCBS 7.62-130SPL over 4227. Powder coated, plain based bullets would make this less $$, but then I would have to buy another mould and powder coat.

Freebullet: Congrats.You'll enjoy it.

Almost feel like we should start a pool on when Ian posts "Well, crap. Saw a deal I couldn't pass up and now I have to start sourcing 9mm brass......" :)

umm you only need a 35 gallon drum for 9mm brass thank you.
the ones that accurate ships their commercial powders in is perfect BTW.
I really need another one or 5-6 of those drums.
I was using the first one to mix [home made and store bought] shot in.
then decided if i cut it in half the Frankfurt media separator thingy fit right on top of it perfectly so now it stores that and the nu-finish/polymer wax coated media.
the second is full of 9mm rounds.
the third one fell apart after a while.
I was using it to mix all my separate [same type] powder jugs into one batch so I could do load work ups and be done with it, and mixing the shot too so it just flat got torn up.

Cardboard with crimped sheet metal ends? I have one about that size I use for a trash can in the gun room (was full of special sawdust a hide tanner friend of mine gets) and another one that's about 2' around and 2.5' tall for the shop trash can (it was used for pure caffiene by the Dr. Pepper plant in Waco). Neat thing about them is the barrel hoop thingy works fantastic for keeping a trash bag locked down so it doesn't fall inside. If you want to buy them, Uline has them in a variety of sizes (30 gal pn s-9944 for $48).

A little bit of time-in-grade with 9mm carbines/SMGs. The FBI-pimped 147 grain JHP sub-sonic loads aren't much as felon repellant, but are quite accurate from a Colt SMG--minute of streetlight to 100+ yards in my experience. In suppressed arms, all that is heard is bolt clatter.

Thanks for the input on these.

I snatched up the lower for 99$. Only 15$ for transfers down the street from me. Should arrive in the next day or 2 but, it may be a week or so before all our parts trickle in.

yeah like a pressed fiber board with metal around the edges and a wooden disc for a lid.
I have got to the point with many of my loads that just loading and filling one of those drums would solve some storage issues.

Can we get a group buy on.....
Titegroup
H110
4227
2400
h335
Varget
Maybe others too!
In those drums you'd think the price would come way down. Just the tg, 2400, & Varget would be great. This sounds right in fivers wheelhouse.

A bunch of parts have shown up & it looks like I'll be putting this together soon. Stay tuned for the psa ar9 shenanigans.
