Best alloy to use?

Here is a link for a company that sells certified 96-2-2 lead for casting.

Good solid company that sells as little as 5lb.
If you prefer pre mixed commercial lead.

My boss gave me the link.
It gets its lead and testing done from one of our sister foundry's in Virginia. Of course if you have a business license, and an ammo manufacturers license. If you could order 100,000 lb, at the current wholesale price, of $2 a pound. We could have Virginia send you some. LOL.
Ouch! 20+ weeks (bottom of the page) to ship? Must be a very busy fella. I'm always looking for new sources for foundry metals.

They seem to have plenty on hand now.

good.
that stuff is the nibs and cuts from their swaging operations.
oddly enough it makes real good cores for swaging jacketed bullets... LOL

but throw a little tin in it and it makes good normal bullets too.

I figgered it didn't have any tin in it. Antimony for swaging, yes.

"Normal bullets", I liked that...

Pretty much 2% Sb with lead. Add 1/2 to 1% Sb plus 1/2% Cu for HV (24-2600 fps) rifle ice water dropped from the PC oven. Still haven't used the Roto tin I bought yrs ago.

I was a firm believer in "Hardcast" for many years in Magnum handguns.
With the advent of powdercoating it has changed my mind.

I now shoot NOTHING but powdercoated range scrap in 38,9mil,357,10mil,44mag, 45/70, 475L,45acp and now 350L. All that hardness does IMHO is inhibit any kind of expansion on game animals. My Lubesizers gather dust.

I do not water drop anything anymore and have no idea of how hard my alloy is. It came from 99% jacketed pistol bullets and shotgun slugs.

The purple slug is one of my first powdercoated slugs. Water dropped wheel weights. 45 Acp at close range on wild hog.

The darker slug was this year. 10millimeter, 180gr, air cooled wheel weights, 50 yards, hog

I don't hotrod semi Autos. That purple slug could darn near be fired again. I got lucky that the hog dropped. We are over run with swine here in West Texas.
