Old retrobate got an underhammer .36 muzzle loader... Wood fitting is great, wood quality is very nice. Wood needs to be finished, but as it is, very smooth.
Where I come in is as the chump that needs to drill the forend for the single mounting screw. The screw fits into a dovetailed underlug, similar to the later Contenders (a little "tophat"). I can fixture this pretty easy, the forend is straight, no taper. Almost drill through, then flip it and drill a pocket from the bottom for the screw head... [edit: brad point 3/16 for screw shank, 2.69 at Menards...] [edit: screw head .255 dia, must czech Contender forearm for mounting screw clearance]
What I want is a brass or steel "well" for the screw head to pull into. Contenders use a narrow diameter steel washer under the screw head to protect the forend wood. I'd like to surround the screw head with metal. Because this is 'Murica...
Are these a common item? I could turn one out of brass stock, but that is Manuel Labor (never met the man, BTW). [edit: or turn one out of steel and fire blue it...]
Failing that, what of small OD washers?
