C&H press

Got a neat little C press, made of aluminum, slick as can be and seems pretty much brand new. My experience with C&H stuff is that it's all very strong and well made, so was surprised by aluminum construction, though it does seem very good quality.

It is marked C&H by Roddy, anybody know what that means? I like it and plan to set it up as a lighy duty press.

After Charles Heckman passed away, the presses were made by a company (unknown real name) that added "by Roddy". When 4D in Cleveland, OH, bought the name and parts, they no longer made the aluminum "C" press. The only aluminum presses they continued was the "333" and then the "444" in aluminum. I believe that went to all cast iron about 20 years ago. C&H4D has, or will make, parts for any of their presses.

Thanks. This is a really slick little pres. I have quite a few old reloading presses, including a couple of C&H. This one is so neat and trim compared to most. I think I'm going to like it.

I've got a CH aluminum press (somewhere, not sure where). IIRC mine has the old-style ram that incorporates the shell holder. I got it in one of those "too good to pass" deals ($40 for 5 C-presses I think it was). Neat press, but I've never used it.

Can't seem to get a picture to upload with this phone, I'll post one when I get it figured out.
About 99% of the problems with uploading a photo onto this site are caused by the pic being too large. A photo that is about 150 - 250 KB's in size will upload just fine.

There are different ways of resizing a photo. With a PC, you just right click on the photo and then select EDIT from menu that opens up. This will put the photo in Paint. Along the top of the menu bar is RESIZE. Click that and then in the box there the percent size is, type in 30 and in 99.9% of the time, this will make the photo under 1MBZ.

On an Android phone, you open the photo. There will be an Edit function. It might be in a menu or it might be a pencil icon. Open Edit and then either in the icons that appear or in a pull down menu there will be a RESIZE option. Select that. On my phone it offers some set sizes. I tried 40% and it dropped a very large photo, well over 1MB down to 376KB. Save it and then you can post it here.

C-H by Roddy indicates the fishing gear manufacturer that took over C-H after Mr. Heckman's passing. C-H was a big believer in using aluminum for reloading presses and accompanying tools. The company got started in the reloading tool business about 1951. Mr. Heckman along with his family was killed by a wrong way driver in 1961. At that time it was the largest reloading tool company in the US.

The press looks good with little use. Even better is the down stroke operation. The down stroke pivot block came about in the mid 1950's. There is a primer catcher that was included along with the complete primer system. Good luck finding examples today.
These make a great 2nd press for neck expanding, bullet seating, neck sizing. Full length resizing with non-carbide dies puts a real strain on them.
