Cast bullets 243

Not to rain on your parade, but 50 yds with a centerfire rifle is not telling you much. I know you like to shoot at 50 yds so I'm glad to see that you are having some success. I assume that flyer was either the first shot from a clean bore or operator error. If your goal is a plinking load, then I think you have found a decent load to hit tin cans at 50 yds.

I'd be curious to hear if you find any lead in your barrel. Run a wet patch down the bore with Kroil or similar and let it sit. Then run another down and take a look.

I've got to disagree with Snakeoil here re: 50 yd. shooting with CF rifles. Yes, we should indeed test them @ 100 yd. or even farther if your range allows, but at 50 yd., I have more control of the outcome. I.e., when I F-up, I'm pretty certain the fault is mine, not the rifle's, or the load/CB.

If the guys that are poo pooing 50 Yd CF shooting.... try it in "Low Node" I bet they would change their minds!!!!
Try being consistent with one hole10 shot groups using a 243 Win and let's say a 104 grain bullet at a consistent 900 fps!
Then get back to me!
It is a different world! you just don't need to walk as far to pull your target and you see as well as you did at 200 yards when you were 30 years old!
Best part the primer cost more than the powder load!

It's a lot of fun once you get it figured out. I really enjoy it. Like the man says. It ain't easy. Believe me I know. And the walk is so much shorter, lol

If I am going for squirrel or rabbit, I don't expect anything over 50 yards. If I am going for deer I will be shooting 100-300 yards. 100 yards is fine with a cast bullet, but when the range can vary out to 300+ yards, I want a jacketed bullet pushed as fast and flat a trajectory as possible. My 270 win will do that.
I enjoy shooting 22's at 50 yards.

I have never shot a deer much over 75 yards with my 357 with cast bullets in either revolver or carbine..

I do a whole lot of 50 yard rifle shooting, because a lot of my varmint blasting occurs up close like that. That is very respectable grouping, Johnny. Making that happen with plain base AND small caliber is stepping up to the plate with an 0-2 count. Groups like that are a base hit between shortstop and second base.

At the casting bench in the sky. RIP Bret.
Lotsa single cavs here. They may not pile up the bullets, but I'm told patience is a virtue. Also lots of 6 bangers. Honestly, it's the 2 cavs that irritate me more than singles. Don't know why, just seem awful slow. Some of my 2 cavs are 2 different cuts in the same mould. Those are so cool I just get a tickle out of them!
