Chilled shot price?

Any trap shooters here with an idea of what bagged chilled 7 1/2's go for retail? I'm out of touch.

I had a guy offer me 600 pounds of shot in bags, I think he would take $20/bag or $0.80 per pound.

I have happily used shot to make two alloys I like, yes it is a pain to melt but it's alright if done in bulk.

If the price is right, maybe I should best sell some for shotshell reloading and take the profits to buy hardball or tin? I have quite a lot of soft lead.

Buy all of it. Right now. Even for chilled shot that's a steal.

Sell it for $25-30/bag if it's not corroded and buy what you need for casting.

Wow. Last I was shooting trap it went to $13 and I thought the world was ending.

Would it seem like a fair deal to say buy 5 bags and you get them for $30 each? Or am I shorting myself. No idea anymore of the nuisance factor involved in buying shot in bulk.

Edited for spelling

buy every one of them right now or they will be gone tomorrow.

I'm seeing 39.00 a bag [retail] and that is as cheap as I have seen it in about 8 years.
I can get it at the club for $22 a bag but I also have to buy 4-$4 shooting tickets per bag to get it.[$38.00 total]
I was trying to hold out for 35.00 a bag, but with the spot price of lead bumping up 10 cents a lb in the last month I don't see that happening any time soon.

Around here it is 35-40 bucks a bag. I would buy it all at 20 per bag. Not even gen a question.

Ok, I'll call him tomorrow and close the deal. Thanks guys.

What you suppose is a fair price if I offer predicated that they buy at least 5 bags, take a stab at it since I am out of the trap loop. I don't want to retail this and hold onto it for maximum profit.

Also, any of you guys want to drive to N. NY I may have some shot for sale, I'll treat you fairly.

Sell it at 25 a bag and it will fly. Find a trap range and stand back.

Thanks for the advice. Flying out of here is what I want, I am not in the retail business.

We have a trap range here but it is covered with 12" of snow and wind blowing snow horizontally. Nasty outside, deer have not moved in two days.

There's some bigger clubs south of here that shoot all year, I'll investigate how to sell this.

Heck, even keeping it makes sense. Add 1% Sn and you have a nice alloy. No crap when smelting it, gotta love that.

I've used a lot of it, both chilled and magnum as a basis for alloy. As you said above, or doctor it up with monotype and a bit of Pb per spreadsheet and make 94-4-2 which I also waterdrop if I like, or dilute with Pb if I need a potful of softer. Very flexible way to make alloy. Kind of hard to melt on a small scale though.

My question about selling is really trying to find the highest and best use for the stuff (or at least help a few buddies). Sometimes that is solved by calculating potential profit, but heck I can just stockpile 600# at that price to feed my habit.

Edited: poor math brain tonight

Did you end up buying it?

Edit: asking because I may buy a bag if you are interested in parting with it.

I need to go pay for it next week. Unless something goes very wrong I expect to own it all.

Sure, be happy to part with some. Dunno how the economics of it works out with shipping? I'll PM you as soon as I own it.

Anybody near northern NY could consider stopping by if you want a few bags.

our poor gal here.
I ordered 24 boxes at 68 lbs each and asked the shipper to spread them out a bit.
they all got to the post office on the same day anyway.[Monday]
our mail lady weighs about 85 lbs after a good lunch and didn't know what to do with them all.
luckily the wife works across the street from the PO so the postmaster walked over there and asked her to come get them.
I was gone to Wyoming at the time but I got to hear all about it later that day.

it was just a few years ago and it's all gone now.
I think our biggest year was a bit over 1200 lbs of lead sent down range.
