I'm looking for a shooter trapdoor. I don't need perfect finish (or really, any finish) or a rifle documented to any particular unit, etc. Not really looking for a carbine but wouldn't object to one--I've just never owned one.

What I am looking for, mostly, is a good bore. Past attempts at sporterization are probably ok if the sights etc are there.

Thanks,
Jim

Don’t thumb your nose at a 50-70. A Model 1868 is a stronger rifle than the Model 1866 but both are great shooters. I find it easier to get good accuracy with the 50.

I intend to shoot this spring. Given the current state of affairs in re. brass, dies, moulds, etc, the 45-70 is the only viable option for me.
