A lot of them like guns and shooting, just don't seem to really understand them or want to understand them. I tell people that if you're a serious shooter you have to be a handloader. So many think it's soley about economics but it will educate you so much on what's going on with the gun or guns you shoot. I could say the same about motorcycles, I used to wrench on mine quite a bit and it made me a whole lot more knowlegeable about the machine.
I hear what you are saying. For prospective though we are a tiny subset of a subset of a subset. Shooters, shooters who handload, and shooters who handload and cast their own projectiles. Not many are willing or inclined to make the commitment and may be put off by information overload.

I have taught several folks the basics of handgun shooting. Many are women on the left of the political spectrum. They are much more concerned about safely operating the gun than the minutiae of the hobby. Some went on to become gun owners themselves. I am good with them being owners and occasional shooters.

The fact is that most shooters are not into the craft to the degree that we on this site are. I am more than happy with occasional shooters who have positive experiences with firearms. Also they tend to leave their brass behind.

Those Colt Officer's Model Match revolvers are fine tools. I had one in 22 LR for a time, and got talked out of it at a weak moment. DUMB! I did run into an Officer's Model Target years later, and that one remains in the safe.
