Just last week I had my G98/40 in 8 x 57 out for some long-delayed range time. Lee 8mm/175 grain @ .325", load was an American "standard" service rifle dosing of 16.0 grains of Alliant 2400. WW cases/WLR primers. Sights set for 700 meters made a 6" dinger plate bounce around nicely at 200 meters. I can whack reaction targets all day. And did! I'm sure Rick can explain the fascination far better than I can. :)

That's pure music, I'm sure Beethoven would be pleased at a silhouette match. :D

Klaus,
That is some nice shooting with Military open sights! What bullet is that?

I have a GEW98 which I love to shoot. It shot so good with the original military sights I decided to put a receiver rear sight on it ( old Redfield) and I adapted the front sight base to take a Lyman 17 Globe sight in which I have a small aperture disk. I shoot a 3 inch black bull at 50 yards ( Fits into the front aperture nicely & easy to hold on target) Now I'm seeing tighter groups. It is my most fun rifle to shoot.
Thanks for your report

update for my report

Some luck these days make me able to buy an original rearsight complete with the rare 350m Blade

Taking 3 Shoots high to find the right “balance” of how much white i need for the 6 o`Clock hold finally I was able to shoot this target.
It`s a pleasure to shoot with this old Warhorse. Can`t stop doing it…
but to be too much abundant results in flyers outside the group..

those fliers can easily be from rolling the rifle to the side a little bit, or just from the suns glare on the paper or your sight.
the target alignment looks good but your just off the tiniest amount.

if your holding low to get the holes up in the black I would suggest a higher front sight.
that will bring the impact closer to the top of your front sight. [down]
