CVA Scout 35 Remington

Spotted one last week when I picked up my 1895. I have shot the 35 Remmy in a 14" Contender and have been successful hunting with it. It's a powerhouse in the Contender. Interested in this little rifle for a dedicated cast bullet shooter. Any thought or experience with this rifle combo?

Ben has proven the Scout rifles can shoot for sure. 35 cal. seems to be cast friendly, so should be a winning combination.
I like the looks of the stock design on the Scout rifles too.

You wouldn't think that a $275 break open , single shot rifle that weighs 5.5 lbs ( less the scope and mounts ) would be capable of this kind of accuracy. The rifle has a 22" flutted barrel.

I shot this group at 50 yards , 5 shots, 17.0 grs. of 2400 with the 31141 HP , sized to .310".

A 5.5 pound rifle sure makes carrying it easier. What isn't to like in an inexpensive rifle that performs as desired?

I shot one round out of a #3 Ruger , with a factory load, and it about brought tears to my eyes, and not from joy! Handed the little rifle back to the owner, thanked him for the chance to shoot it, and went back to my bench with the knowledge that I did not want a 45-70 in a #3.

Let's see now........" For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction."

I think that is the way it goes ? ?

Went by to look it over and he had two. One owner stainless scout that he had sold and bore sighted for the buyer. He actually sighted it in for the guy but that's the only shots through it. Picked it up very reasonable. Does have pretty good trigger. I'll try to get some pictures up later.

OK Now I Wishing I bought one of these Instead of a 358 Win! All I want to do is punch Paper! Not kill Bear!
The 35 Rem is a very accurate cast bullet rifle!

The 35 Rem is a very accurate cast bullet rifle!

It is when you can find the brass.
You won't be having that problem with your 358 Win.
Believe me, it is just as accurate as the .35 Rem.

Wish i had one of each (35 rem. and 358 win.) to go with my 35 whelen. I have resisted....so far! Oh and most of all...a 30/35.

Am reminded of the old yankee saying about: "the only difference between men and boys is---------fill in the blank!"

I would be sorely tempted to pop that 35 Remington out to 358 Winchester, unless you have a hoard of 35 Remington brass you are going to be scrambling to find some. Best I know is to buy a few boxes of factory ammo if you are looking for 35 Rem brass.

Brass is a problem and punching it out to 358 crossed my mind. I have 35 Remington brass for my contender and want to keep it separate. Place I got the rifle has 8-10 boxes of factory ammo. May have to get it.

I just picked one up in 44 Magnum. It’s a sweetheart! Good trigger and smooth action. I have some test loads ready for it that I hope to try this week. First time I shot it wasn’t all that impressive. I’m starting to suspect the scope being a problem but I’ll wait until I shoot these loads before I change it.

Back to the 35Rem - they had one of these at the shop I bought my 44.
