CZ has a new rifle model

CZ is bringing out a new rifle model. It's a swap barrel and bolt face for caliber conversion non Mauser action. It's the model 600. The bad news is this is replacing all of CZ"s 500 series rifles. The already departed model 550 the current 557 model and the micro-Mauser model 527's. I'm a big fan of the little 22 Hornet to 223 sized Mauser action and am genuinely sorry to see it go. If you have ever wanted one of these old school little control round feed beauties now would be a good time to start looking.

SAKO-style receivers and sub 3/4 MOA premium factory ammunition accuracy guarantee at 100 meters, might not be so bad? I am a Mauser-style CRF aficionado, but with the exception of the Remington 700, most push-feed systems are quite reliable. My Tikka and Winchester 70 push-feeds are flawless and I have operated Bergara and Howe actions and found them quite satisfactory. Savage bolt rifles suffer from magazine problems when it comes to feeding, no fault of the actual push-feed bolts.

The model 600 seems to be geared twords the European market some what. The swap barrel/caliber/bolt face option in countries where you can only own a rifle or two. It also eliminates some of the scoping hassles by using Remington 700 mounts. I don't mind push feed either. Up till a couple of years ago I had a post 64 model 70 Varminter in 222 Remington. Nothing wrong with that rifle at all. I just really liked that the 527 action was well scaled to the smaller Varminting cartridges like the 22 Hornet thru the 223 Remington class. I can't remember the last NEW rifle I bought. The exception being CZ 527's, those I've actively sought out.

The 527 is cute as a button, one of the few bolt sporters appropriately sized for the .22 centerfires. Times do change, don't they?

i thought control round feed was a 'thing' for a long time too.
then i realized if i needed to shoot my rifle upside down i could just use a semi-auto.

Push feed is the solution to "short stroking" the bolt; if the case comes out anything close to the rear of the magazine will feed.

Not so much weather the action was push or control feed more the scale of the action to caliber choice. The 1970's Winchester in 222 Remington uses the same action size as my 1990"s model 70 in 375 H&H. I still have a Remington 700 in 223 Remington and back in the day It was a fairly small action rifle but the CZ 527 is tiny next to it. Most of my Varmint rifles are now based on CZ 527 actions if in 223 or smaller cased. That said The control feed action are nice. A number of my 22 Hornets (Kimber, Ruger, Savage 40) are based on rimfire actions. They can get finicky re guarding extraction. Not so the CZ's.

Switch-barrel rifles are a good option if you can only own a limited number of rifles, and want a broad selection of cartridges. These rifles also introduce some problems due to the moving parts. «What load was this zeroed with again?». If you can own as many rifles as you want, fixed-barrel rifles are more sensible.

I’m also a fan of the CZ527, great little action that is actually suitable for the cartridges for which it is chambered. CRF vs push-feed is not a big issue with me, I actually prefer push-feed. But then, I’m never shooting upside-down at something that is shooting back.

I wish mini-actions were generally more available. It kind of surprises me they are not more popular among the numerous shooters using cartridges that would fit such an action. If a «Tikka T2x» was available, I think it would be a major hit among small game hunters.

I have had my CZ527 in 7.62x39 for quite a while. I shoot mainly cast bullets in it and with a lower power scope it is a great shooter.
