12 twist.

Got a stainless Savage SA 223,4.5-14 scope that is a tackdriver with the Lee 55,not Bator. The slight rub is that it's mission in life was/is a spray bombed, cheap stalking varminter with JB's.It was a "what if" introducing CB's.

So,yesterday afternoon needed to be on a job out in the boonies where, although there's tons of property and hunting galore....we usually get so involved on the project that well, you get the idea.

Soooo,it was decided to start carrying the CZ,no scope, factory irons.Leave the Savage for JB's.....use the CZ for cast.Gonna go as high velocity as it'll keep'm in the bttm of a coke can @100.Pushing the slow twist notion to the extreme. Will slap a scope on for dialing in the specifics....taking it off for field work.

Will keep y'all posted.

that lee and 22+grs of I-4895 will get you up there no problems.
work with a harder more balanced alloy 3.5-3.5 or 4.5-4.5

I've a 222 in a 340 with a 12" twist that will run 2680 with a NOE 225-55 @ 62 gr with a copper enhanced 75/25 W W-1/20 alloy over H322 .

RB,funny....just came from reloading room, about the time of your post.

Had to look for the Savage data....didn't start a folder for it.The load notes were scribbled in the new Lyman cast book.Looks like I hit an accuracy/barrel time node on the second load try with 4198.1st was @13g,....2nd try was the homerun @14g.

Never ran it across the chrono but the book speed is round 2100.Lite jam with all applicable attention paid to fit. It's a one ragged hole load/bullet combo.

So my question to you is about the H322.I've used/got H380,and some 335...both of which are for me,JB powders. What can you tell me about the 322 and cast? And yes,am looking for speed.

I've got the 4198 working well.LOVE 4895 with cast(thanks Grandpa fiver).Got some 4759 and 5744,much more experience with the former. So,any dope on the 322 would be peachy!!!

Waco, are you running CB's in your CZ?If so,how's the assuming? factory barrel "liking" the silver bullet. From an interior ballistic/finish,and fouling standpoint?

I run H-322 under jacketed in my 223's
21grs is too much for cast, cut it down.[16-17 would be a decent start point]
you might need a filler.

it will provide outstanding groups in various 30 cal rifles.
but needs a filler in those for sure, otherwise you get wild [150 fps] velocity variations.

Very little cast through it. Rolled beer cans at 100 yards with it in the 2000fps range. No leading. Same Lee bullet. 55gr not Bator.

Which stock Waco?

This one has the hog humper or whatever it's called. It isn't very good with scopes. But the irons are really set up well.Got the longer brrl(vs full length stock).

I have jumped the data a little bit .
That load is actually right out of jacketed data .
60gr v max starts at 2600 with 19.0 34,800 psi (my load)
63 gr Sierra SP starts at 2500 at 18.6 33,600 .

The loads go to about 20.5 at and 42-44kpsi , this alloy has been proofed with checks at known values (or at least comparitive known data ) at 42,000 in 6.8.
H322 starts cleaning up at about 28,000 and is clean at 30k but it doesn't close the velocity gaps shot to shot until 32k where it jumps about 200 fps and goes from 125-175 splits to 30-50 fps .
I run just 20.0 In the 223 for 2050 fps in the 1-8 twist in the AR .
I've just started to fuss over an Axis and Stevens 200 both with 1-8s .

I switched to the H322 because H4198 landed in a weird pressure ,burn rate , timing curve place in the 6.8 . Of course I was doing all of this in early 2016...... Take what you can get be glad there was something on the shelf season ....

Anyway it works in the carbine everything and after I shoot another 100 or so jackets through the 2 Savages I'll see if something will run in them faster than almost subs ....

Disclaimer edit.... RB sorta beat me to this right above before I posted and with better information/explanation.......

H322 needs to be cooped up to get lit well, and if its burn speed doesn't do what you want by that point (aren't at a good node or are over/under the velocity for the pressure you want) then you're immediately going to have to switch. The good news is there are several similar powders that will completely cover the mid-slow rifle spectrum and have similar pressure/volume burn characteristics. None of them, however, are in the right burn speed for the .223.

I'm running the same 60g. V-max as well as my home made 63gr rn at 21.8grs of the H-322 for about 2850 fps. out of my 1-8 twist.
I save those for rock chucks and yotes.

I was gonna throw in something similar to coincide with my earlier post and RB's, but clicked the 'view post' before hand.

Thanks to all on the data.

Got to admit to something I normally don't do.In my first attempt at the CZ.....don't do this at home kids...Took a round of the Savage load, knowing full well about the time it took/takes to fit a CB,and rammed it home up through the CZ mag. No,I wasn't drunk.

Semi quickly, rammed the second and 3rd rounds up,and through.Mini Mauser axeshun takes a positive, practiced flick and throw....MUCH harder than the std length action(practice a bolt anyone?).

Anyhoo, the seating length is not yet mic'd but the visual and confirmed trip through the "cycle" has OAL maybe 5-10 .001's longer than the bullets crimp groove. And noticeably shorter than the Savage.Perfect extraction with witness marks on the slightly bumped nose sized bullet.

I Have to send my 527 Lux to the next local gun auction. I don't care to take it into the field hunting. I'm skeerd of scrartching it. I will get an axis or handi to replace it.

Timely indeed, I just got my second CZ 527 used lefty. I have the American and now the Lux. It appears my cataract surgery and complications are going to end up with good iron sight vision. Both are 12" twist. I will follow this closely.

A bit off topic: how do these 527's carry in the field? Got the boxy magazine sticking out, how does the rifle balance in the hand? Wouldn't mind owning one so I am curious.

I carry my 7.62 X 39 with the mag in my palm, like a Win 94, it's ok. The .223 balances just ahead of the mag for me and is comfortable to carry.

Thanks, Ric. While we're on the subject, your view of fit and finish, quality, potential accuracy? Worth the money for what appears to be a nice little package?
