I just mailed a Tikka T3 308 to JES to become a 358, 1-12. Later this afternoon I pick up my Remington 30s that is a JES 35 Whelen re-bore. Who cares about an eclipse!!

Here are a few pics of the Remington 30s. These were built right after the war on surplus Enfield actions. They were converted to cocking on opening and chambered in several calibers includingb the 30/06. I got this one from JES and is has been punched out to 35 Whelen. I want to use the Lyman 48 sight but so far I have not been able to find one. I did find a Redfield and may use it. I had rather have a rifle like this than a dozen plastic stocked rifles. Disclaimer: I do own some plastic stocked rifles.

I saw a complete Lyman 48 for the Remington 30S at a gun show yesterday. The hole spacing may or may not be compatible with a Redfield sight. I bought an '03 with Lyman 57 and was going to swap it out with a Lyman 48, but found the hole spacing different. Lyman 48s were hand fit and parts numbered to match. An elevator slide from another RH side 48 may or may not fit.

I like those model 30's I bought one in a box a number of years ago and put the whole thing together.
it was missing a trigger guard, but I got lucky and found a brass casting in Rock Springs Wy. one day about 3 months later that was close enough I could re-shape it and do a little bending on it to fit properly.
after some stock refinishing and some bedding it made a really fine rifle.
I ended up finishing it just in time to give to a young man I was somewhat mentoring on his way through high school as a Christmas present his senior year, along with 100 rounds I had put together just for that rifle, but it was pretty painful parting with it after all that work and seeing how well it shot..

Beautiful rifle..don't want to put a damper on things but I don't think that was the gun to rebore..they are scare and are bringing some good prices these days..especially in the condition that one is in.

Four Lyman 48 slides went for around $60.00 on E-Bay the other day ..I was asleep at the switch, one was for the first model with the extra long slide graduated to 150 yds worth at least $100.00..if you sold that you would still have had three left.

It was already bored, I would love to find one in '06 too. My next goal is a 03 with Lyman peep.

Oh..I'm so glad to hear that..so you got a good one already done..good for you...and like I said she's a beauty....

As for the 03 with a Lyman you might try looking at 03 Sporters..one's that have only had the rear sight base removed and tapped for a Lyman..I think a "C" stock with upper hand guard can still be had for around $165.00 from DCM..
