Dumb azz question

I have this handy dandy MP 358-200 that cast a 203gr slug with big hollowpoint and I am using it in 350L.

I want to load this slug in 357 Mag. She is too long for a .357 mag case without crimping on the ogive for my Blackhawk and Security Six.

I can make it fit with a 38 special case.

My question is:
I have load data for a 200 gr cast slug in .357 mag, loaded to 1.575 O.A.L.
Can I load this Magnum Load in a 38 special case if my O.A.L is longer and be safe? O.A.L. in crimp groove when loaded in 38 special is 1.660

It wouldnt chamber in a .38 so there is no danger there. Will the brass hold it, etc??? I dont see any blantant issues?

Thanks

that's a big jump in pressure,, and for god's sake don't try it with titegroup.

i'd look at some of the older 38-200 British type loads, and work slowly from there, there just ain't a lot of room to work with.
but room [boiler room] is where i'd focus my attention and go from there.

Load is with HS-6. I believe that I will have more room in a 38 special case than the specified load in 357 mag....in this specific instance.

Kind of like loading a 358429 in a 38 case vs crimping over the front band in a 357 mag case to get same OAL

Somebody needs a. 358 Winchester, just sayin'.
Nah man just plinkin.

Ive gotten completely out of the rifle game. Gave my entire collection to my sons. Then purchased the 350 for the wife, then I had to have one, then another for the grandkid.

There should be (is!) lots of data for a 200 gr bullet in a 38 Special case in the older load manuals. It's going to depend on how much airspace is left between base and powder as others have noted. Start low, work up, stay safe. I'm sure it can be done, just gotta take it slow.

There is. There is also much data on doing so in a .357 mag case. The bullet profile that I am fooling with doesnt lend itself to seating as short as what I have in printed data. Seating it where the case mouth has a good purchase on the slug makes it too long for the cylinder in the mag case.

I had a 35 cal Ranch dog 190gr mold. I sold it, cuz I started thinking I don't like to shoot heavy for caliber bullets. So, before I sold it, I cast some of those 190's in case I ever change my mind. That dang mold cast so well, I filled 4 Qt jars with bullets.
.
Last week, as I was cleaning/organizing the reloading rooms and moved those 4 Qt jars for the umteenth time, I though why am I keeping them? Then I thought why not keep them?
Anyway, this thread made me think about that some more. If I were to load any of them in 38 cases, I'd probably use Unique.

Smirt ax answer ahead .

Take the 38/200 , 38 NP data . Load it hot +P all the way up to a max load for a 9×19 147 . Use a slow and or docile powder like Unique . Seat whatever you need in a 38 Special case . As long as it's in a 357 you can't get hurt . The extra case volume over the 9mm length will take care of the pressure and what it doesn't cover will take up in the throat jump and cylinder gap . The Sec 6 was built for the 45,000 CUP data . I don't think 4.5 gr of Unique or 5 gr of Herco would break 30,000 psi in that application.
Check Speer #12 it has 357 data for their 200 gr target bullet .

The longer nose will mess with you, but it's doable. If I can load a 150+gr design in a 32/20...
