Fixing a stock

I know my issues with the 270 are completely baseless, I just never warmed up to it... if this rifle was a 280 Remington, 7x57, 8x57, 6.5-06, or even a 338-06 I would be in love right now

Josh,
On the up side, the 270 has those others beat when it comes time to buying factory ammo at the local sporting goods store. I'm with you on your chambering preferences, however. (I'd add 30'06 and 8mm'06 as well.)

Finished, I put on a beeswax/linseed oil finish after I was done with straight oil. Here it is in good light, I will take some beauty pics later today or tomorrow.

That satin finish looks great, way better than glossy epoxy. Good job!

How did the repair on the comb work out?

Pretty good, you can just see it in that pic. I held it in place with some Locktite epoxy, it is permanent for sure. It was also free floated while I was in there, all by hand, not one power tool was used on this rifle. I *may* bed it, just depends if it shoots better when i get it to the range tomorrow.

No, I sealed it with a beeswax/blo paste, about the consistency of a very heavy hand cream. It took some heat to fully saturate the stock, even with me rubbing it in.

Pretty good? Yeah, I'd say so. There is obviously a skill set there that I am envious of. Nice work Josh. :D

Thank you for the kind words Rick! Here is a better picture of the fix. The epoxy was set and I packed in some of the walnut sawdust. This allowed it to take the oil, it just got a little dark on the edge.
