Forgive me, for I have sinned!

Widners has a special on 30 cal Hornaday 150 grain RN bullets ($29.00 per C). All things considered, this is not a bad price today. Anyway, I ordered 500. I have enough 4895 to load them to USGI M2 specs, albeit with a RN bullet. I already have 1K USGI M2 and M2AP rounds put up in Garand clips. I am willing to bet these RN rounds will feed in the Garand, but if they don't I have plenty of other 30-06 rifles at hand.

I am not forsaking our beloved lead, but these will go into a stack that makes me feel good to have. I also have about 1K USGI 7.62 Nato rounds and a couple of 308s to shoot them in.

Anyway, if the Mexicans across the River (3 miles away) get frisky, I can keep their heads down until the cavalry or Rangers arrive. I don't expect that to happen, but in the words of the great American Jazz Legend Fats Waller, "One never knows, do one!"

My reloading mentor once asked his gunsmith, who landed on Guadalcanal on his 17th birthday, what is a sufficient number of Garand rounds to keep on hand. His answer was 2500. I'm only 2100 short.

My Garand's preferred load is Sierra's 165-grain SBT and 50.0-grains of Accurate 4064. Whenever the powder becomes re-available maybe I ought to load some more.

The last few years, I’ve more or less shot cast bullets, only. Not out of principle, but simply because I found it more interesting than shooting factory bullets. But; preparing 200 bullets a week, and loading ammunition, is a bit of work. Occationally, it is good to just assemble ammo that just works, using components that others made for you.

I’ve actually shot a bit of jacketed bullets my last range trips. I wanted to check out the accuracy potential of a couple of rifles that have seen only cast. Next weekend, I’ll shoot some copper-plated handgun bullets in the .35 whelen, excited about those!

Only load and shoot jacketed in calibers less than .30 caliber. Been quite a few years because it's pretty boring. Worked up loads for those in the 90's. Have enough on hand to last my lifetime. Guess I need to check the 243W and 270W for cobwebs in the barrels.;)

I’ve written recently about working up a 180gr Partition load for my 30-06, this will work on Elk, Black Bears(county record is 570 pounds), and probably is overkill for our local Blacktail. What’s funny is that with my luck, I’ll most likely only ever use this load on Blacktail.

I've got a number of rifles that only see jacketed, handguns, 25-20 and 38-55 only cast. Old 308 gets a mix, but the last couple years have mainly been cast.

I picked up 500 Hornady 55gr SP’s and 500 168gr Tipped SMK’s awhile back from mid south. I’ll use those .30cal Sierras in all that new Norma brass for VIDEOS with the 700. Found a good new spot to shoot at around 650. Really want to try the cast at this distance too. Shooting from the same spot we also have a target area where we can shoot out to 1350 yards. not sure Cast is going to do that but at least now I can go out with a 6.5 Creedmoor and 338 Lapua and have a little fun closer to home. Still about an hour and a half drive. Better than driving to the middle of the state.

Better would being able to move to the middle of the state. Too bad your job isn’t there.

I have lots of jacketed but just haven’t loadEd or shot them in a long time.

At the casting bench in the sky. RIP Bret.
I see no sin in using jacketed. Mix it up! Enjoy! As long as you can get what you need, it's good. I'd just like like to be able to find reasonably priced 22's, lots and lots of them, like 5-10 thousand. And 22WRF, real hard to find them.

Same here I have boxes on boxes of jacketed bullet for various rifle and pistol calibers stashed away from when I converted to shooting mainly cast lead bullets. I have load data and loaded ammo using those bullets as well just in case, can't replace them for what I paid for them at the time and they ain't eating anything.

I no longer have a job. My wife and my roots are here, South of the Checkpoint. I came here in 1944 and she in 1950. It is a cultural/linguistic overlap and quite unlike other parts of Texas and certainly much different from mainstream America culture. We love where we live, the closeness of the River not withstanding. Not fixing to go anywhere. Not sure I could function well in the Land of the Gringos anymore.

When the last 22 drought passed and prices returned to more or less normal, I bought four cases of Federal 22 Automatch. I have not opened them yet, but still rely on about 4K rounds from my stash from Obama's first term.
