I have been shooting this all summer in a sporterized Springfield... very accurate. Try 16-16.5 2400 it shoots a house afire for me. RL 7 is not bad either. You will have fun with this one.

YUP ..16-17.8 Grs of 2400 in the 30-06 is definitely a winner with the 315...

I was expecting 4759 to perform with the 315, odd that it didn't cooperate. Also, when the bullet is seated out in my rifle there is very little bullet in the case neck. I was getting an occasional troublesome flier and traced it to a problem with uneven neck tension. I usually avoid crimping cast unless for hunting, but a light roll crimp solved my fliers.

I haven't shot anything as nice as your groups, Quicksylver. That is fine work.

Attached a recent 10-shot group shot at 50 yards. Lyman 57 receiver sight, post front, sporterized Rem. 03-A3 2-groove. Neck sizing using a Lee collet die helps a lot in this rifle.noe315.jpg

I couldn't make out from your notes what alloy you are shooting with the 2400 loads. Do your rifles have any consistent preference for alloy toughness? At 2400 velocities mine dislikes most anything harder than aircooled WW and tin in the 315. Water quenched blow the groups up. Curious if this happens with other Springfields.

Chris I have been using 3.5-3.5-93 for everything PB and gas checked ..the Springfields and my Winchesters and Remington will literally shoot any bullet in that alloy to sub minute 3/8" to 1 " even with iron sights ....they seem to prefer (30-06) 17.8 grs 2400 or 21.7 grs RX7 ....(308) 16.8 grs 2400...except the 311466 ( 17.5 grs 2400)...forgot what the 30-30 likes..(.too lazy right now to check the groups).
PB with the above alloy...Rock Island with scope

Well, that's interesting Quicksylver... and that is some fancy group right there. Thanks for the info. Dunno why mine is so particular, the groups noticeably open up with tougher alloy than 97-2-1. I used to shoot a lot of 92-4-4 so similar to yours but I don't think I ever tried it in this rifle. I'll dig some out and try it just in case.

by the way, 21.5 RL 7 shot quite well. I'll try dialing it in by tenths, might get lucky. RL 7 was still shooting good hunting accuracy at 25-28 grains

Chris, the NOE 30 Hunter is a completely different animal than the Saeco 315 copy, and will react completely differently to alloy choice. Be careful of drawing false conclusions about alloy alone, or powder alone, or bullet shape/style alone.

I guess I missed that that was a Hunter. I thought we were discussing the NOE 315 copy and variables affecting accuracy with that bullet alone. Yes, you are correct and I'm not trying to draw unwarranted/simplistic conclusions... just the opposite, NOE 315 in Springfield rifles.

I have been wanting to try the 315 out for some time. Will be the next mold I get. You guys make it look too good! At least the next one will kick me into the $1000 Club.

The Lyman manuals abbreviate the "Reloder" series of powders "RX", and since those are the principle manuals I use, it's a habit of mine and I suspect others as well.
