Gunsmithing - Mauser Chileno 1895 - One piece scope base

I have an 1895 mauser that I am going to mount a scope on.*

For this project, the only mount I'm interested in using is some sort of version of the old redfield one piece mount. This is an aesthetic decision more than anything else. I only have experience with this type of mount on rifles that have already been setup with base, scope, and rings prior to my ownership. As far as I can tell, there are only really two options that I can find currently.

1) Redfield's 511137

2) Weaver's 4546A

I believe these are the only two that have a cutout for the hump on the rear ring of the receiver where the stripper clips are inserted. I'd rather use the mounts that do not require milling that rear ring, but if anyone has experience with this, I'm would love to hear the pro's and cons of milling vs non-milling. Accuracy wise, is milling a much better option? If I were to settle for milling the rear ring, then it would open up more options for the one piece scope base.

My other concern are scope rings. The redfield base should be compatible with the similar type of rings that are prevalent today for the one piece mounts that leupold and other sell. However, the weaver base looks like it may require special scope rings? Is the weaver setup solid? I have not seen a setup like this. What kind of rings are used with that base? Or maybe that base then uses weaver inserts of some sort with the weaver/picatinny slots?

If there are other options for a vintage looking onepiece setup for this rifle, I'm all ears. The aesthetic I'm going for is something like:

Very last resort would be 2 piece bases :(

*yes yes, I know people will cringe at altering an old military firearm. Hike your own hike, is what I say. I love making old rifles usable to me. I feel like it's more respectful than letting it gather dust in my safe. I won't use it in the current military configuration. I have other rifles in perfect military configurations with all matching numbers that I use and will not alter. Those are the ones I use. I have taken alot of time, and many years to decide what I want for this 85 mauser, and modifying is what I want. I suspect this disclaimer is not necessary on this forum, but I thought I would include it just in case :)

At the casting bench in the sky. RIP Bret.
As far as acuracy goes, there shouldn't be any difference between an unmolested rifle and one that has had the hump cut/ground off PROPERLY. If Bubba gets into the act and uses a 4" angle grinder and some beer for lube, all bets are off. Myself, if I could leave the hump I would. I've never dealt with any for the bases shown, can't help you there.

Am I lost in the 60's with prices ?
A scope base for $90 ?????????

Ben
I was at Cabela's the other day, Grrrrrr, (Bass Pro), looking for a riser for an AR right before deer season. I saw a Leupold base, maybe a base and rings, I don't remember other than the shock of the price, $129.99.

I'd like to get a decent rain suit for fishing too, but $500.00? for jacket and bibs? Uff dah!

I didn’t pay anywhere near $90 for mine. That’s got to be their MSRP. Google it for a better price. I found it for $70, but that’s still high in my opinion.
