Trust but verify: I wonder if your magnetic damper on your scales have collected dust etc. The two Ohaus scales don't take long to measure. My time may be deceptive since I use a trickler. The exception was measuring powder charges from a 550. No real problem there. I use the weights and also keep the beam scales as a backup.
The only cleaning instructions I recall is to use a piece of paper to wipe down the blade portion. I'd take the beam out and use an alcohol rub to clean pieces. I have to remember for myself a watched pot never boils.
