I finely got lucky

I started working up loads for my new 450BM. My intentions are to find a hunting load.
My starting bullet is a 450gr cast of 50% CO/50% soft lead + .5 to 1% sn. PC. and using 2400. I started single loading at around 7 gr. powder. I used 1 gr load increases till i got to 1K fps where i started looking for a usable load. At 1000 fps i used .5 gr powder increases and just guessed at 7 increases.
At 50 Yards i shot 1 shell from each of the 7 groups. Just to get chronograph readings, and see where the bullets were hitting. The velocity went from 1030 to 1175. And all of the bullets cut 1 large hole. So out to a 100 yards. 3 shots of all the load levels i made for a total of 21 rounds. And i was ready to stop shooting. I am very recoil shy and i was just about to my max.
Even at 100 yards there was very little difference in point of impact for any of the loads. And by my ladder test load # 6 produced the best place to fine tune a hunting load. Now i have to save enough milk jugs to test my alloy.

No kiddin quite a lot of milk jugs and ya should also use a couple of the cows. o_O At 100 yards the last thing a 450 gr bullet wants to do is stop.

....unless you have plenty of tags and lots of friends to help get the deer in the freezer. That's rapidly approaching 12-gauge slug power.
