From pics looks like they are similar but maybe shorter nose in the H&G.

Yea I just happens to see it and thought it was possible it was. Every manufacturer had its version of many different designs over the years, who came up with it snd who copied it is a mystery in itself sometime.

I learned a bit about this design. Its old! 38 S&W old. I have an old orig 20's Ideal mold and then this "S" mold from late 40's early 50's, we assume. The "S" means recut for the smaller .358 dia for use in 38 spl and 357 Mag.

Well, that is close. The "S" really means "size" at it will be at the largest diameter and made from a new cherry. The "U" means "undersize" the smallest diameter and made from a worn cherry, unable to be sharpened again. FWIW

Usually yes I have read. But I do not believe that this is that a d its not explained as that in company literature. This cherry is old as stated and started for a different larger caliber the 38 s&w. As that cartritage was eclipsed by newer its large dia was obsolete and re designing got it a S.

Here is old pre 1920 single cav Mold and bullet

Old mold in front. "Newer" Gang/arsenal mold behind. Bullets all cast from Gang mold.

Here is a powdercoated "newer" bullet.
