LaPierre Resigns

NRA is not cleaning itself up just yet. They promoted a WLP acolyte from within the current staff to his position when he resigned so don't expect them to change anything yet. And yeh, that golden parachute that WLP got is outrageous.
"Andrew Arulanandam, a longtime LaPierre confidant, was the NRA’s spokesperson until just last month, when he replaced the suddenly ousted head of general operations (Joshua Powell, who has plead guilty and turned state's witness). That position change put Arulanandam in line to succeed LaPierre, and he will be the interim head of the organization once LaPierre’s resignation takes effect (at the end of January).
Similarly, the tenure of the NRA’s president, Charles Cotton, should have ended last year under the group’s old bylaws—but they were changed. Cotton’s natural successor, Willes Lee, who has been publicly critical of the legal strategy in the New York case lately, was unceremoniously dismissed—and Cotton, a staunch LaPierre supporter, gained another term as president."
Last year multiple media group's reporting on this troubled non-profit organization's public financials, it has shown that the NRA is bleeding money it doesn't have....it had to take a loan of $24Mil and was still $12Mil short in revenue after agreeing to give WLP a $17Million golden parachute "post-retirement consultation contraction." We can only pray after the NY Trial case is over, it also requires WLP to repay what he embezzled as well as vacate that retirement check as well.

I'm not one to kibbitz about high earning folks, but 17 million golden parachute for someone that's largely responsible for destroying the organization? That is more than I could earn in several lifetimes. It won't happen, but I wish they had a devious accountant to pack his parachute.

At the casting bench in the sky. RIP Bret.
Just to be clear- I have zero faith that NRA will come out of this for the better as far as supporting gun rights/training. It will just grow into an even larger lobbying service...which these days are little different from a paid "escort" service.

i knew some 'parachute packers' in the A-F that'd be real good candidates.

i agree on the whole thing with Bret.
just,,, well god,, it's just gonna be a new boss same as the old boss situation.
, the environment has been fostered, and unless they all go, it'll just be tuesday on the golf course again next week.

There is much doom and gloom in these discussions concerning the current status of the NRA and the coming years.

In short, there is a complete restructure needed. The only way this can be accomplished is contacting the Board of Directors. I have sent an email to the Corporate Council requesting the email addresses of each member of the Board of Directors to be in direct contact with them. (This is also a subtle query to see how the current structure works to protect their current organizational structure.)
  • Be polite. (They are volunteers)
  • Be respectful. (They are volunteers)
  • Thank them for taking the time to listen. (They are volunteers)
  • Offer specific positive future steps for tomorrow's daily running. (I'll call for a better audit within Sarbanes-Oxley guidelines. This is only for corporations, but the guidelines can apply for any organization.)
  • Sarbanes-Oxley Act: Key Provisions
    • Executives Must Certify Financial Statements.
    • Companies Maintain Internal Controls to Prevent Fraud.
    • Criminal Penalties.
    • Whistleblower Protection.

I agree there is a lot of doom & gloom in the examination of this event.

I do not have a functional crystal ball and I'm pretty sure no one else has one either.

I don't know what will happen but I do know that we will find out.

The NRA behaved poorly, that's apparent. The future may suprise us or it may shock us. I really don't know which.

I do think there is some potential good in the future but I'm not certain of that outcome.

.............We'll See.
