Last doe tag filled with cast

Used the old 1959 or so JC Higgins 51-L(HVA action) 308 with the NOE clone of the Saeco #315 to take a doe this afternoon in our Jan antlerless season. Somewhere close to 11-12 Bhn at 2150 muzzle velocity. The deer was roughly 130 yards, punched both lungs and hit the arteries just above the heart. She ran 50-75 yards and dropped. Got it field dressed, then hung in the shed and skinned before dark. Temp was still in 40s. Supposed to get to the teens tonight and then have several nights at or below zero so it may be awhile before I get it butchered. Planning on making some summer sausage.
This makes 4 deer this season, doe in the early pre-rut antlerless season with the M70 XTR Featherweight(one of the last ones made befor they moved to South Carolina) and a 95 B-Tip. Medium buck in regular season with the old Ruger MkII .257 Roberts and 100 gr Hornady Interlock. The doe I posted about here with the 38-55 and 250 gr cast and now this one. Told the wife she needs to clean out the freezers to make room.

Featherweight got the red buttpad?
my 257 F-weight was one of the last ones out the door too and it has the solid red pad.
shot my biggest Mule deer with it and then sorta set it aside.

Sure does, I've always said when that barrel wears out I'll replace it with a .257 Roberts barrel. Too bad 25 cal bullets are getting hard to come by, I really like the old discontinued 100 Interlock. Glad I've got about 3 boxes left.

I have had good luck over the years during the extended January antlerless season here. It ended in my areaon Sunday. I only went out the first morning, the one deer I shot during archery and whatever of the one my son shot his family doesn't eat will liley get me through.

By the time this season rolls around, the days are getting longer, deer have started to settle down and most huinters won't bother. Nice when I used to hunt exclusively public land.

I'm lucky enough to have taken all 4 on my own property. Younger Grandson also got a small buck here in the youth season. He was 12 at the time.

i got a few boxes of the interlocks kicking around here too.
my one 25-06 really likes the lighter bullets and shoots 100's like a champ, it really dotes on the speer 100gr. boat tails, but they are a touch fragile at the 3-K i use them at,,, no complaints on the deer being dead, but they are a little messy even on light stuff like coyotes.
makes me figure they'd be just about perfect at 2850 from the Bob.

the Ruger 0-6 which weighs in at about 47lbs. likes the Hornady 120HP, and the Bob does good work with them too but god those are hard to find.

I run the 100 Interlock at 3050 in the Roberts using H4350 or Hunter. Haven't tried the bt speer but do have the Hot Core 100 for my 250 Savages to save the Interlocks for mine and my sons Roberts. The Hot Core is just a bit softer than the Interlock, but not bad.

hey!!! you are NOT supposed to shot deer with lead. and why don't you go with the 342 Weatherington and 137gr super-duper copper tip bullets. you are sooooooo old skool.

good shooting!!!! i shot my last doe with a 1936 Husqvarna m46 in 9.3x57 with a 275gr WFN GC with IMR4895 that i guesstimate at 1800-1900fps at a whooping 15ish yards. she didn't run tho. it was more along the lines of BA---flop---NG!!!
